This was the first television series based on the legend of Robin Hood, making Patrick Troughton the first actor to play the role on television.
Patrick Troughton's grandson Sam Troughton would later play Much, Robin's trusted friend and ally, in Robin Hood (2006).
A publicity still of Patrick Troughton as Robin Hood was shown on a computer screen in the Doctor Who (2005) episode Robot of Sherwood (2014) starring Peter Capaldi, when the Doctor was showing the real Robin Hood how in the future he would become a legendary and oft-portrayed fictional character. Troughton played the Second Doctor in Doctor Who (1963).
The only surviving footage from the series is an eight minute segment from the second episode The Abbot of St. Mary's (1953).
