    Benjamin Maccabee, Victor Mature

Benjamin Maccabee (2005) plays the same role as Victor Mature (1960), and both actors posses the qualities of a true hero: power, charisma, strength... mixed with a deep love for their cause and their people, and a very real sensitivity. Maccabee was the perfect choice, following valiantly in the shoes of Victor Mature and doing him justice. Without limited dialog due to the nature of this documentary, Maccabee still manages to convey an extreme sense of passion and one can really imagine him leading his troops into battle. And those deep, dark, beautiful eyes convey everything he is feeling on the battle field and off. This was an immensely moving historical recount of events in that era, with a true star at the helm

The 'True story of Hannibal' A grand slam.

Gret Show. Director Mark Hufnail hit a home run with the 'true story of Hannibal'. A Dacu/feature in it's best. Smooth and flawless. this show will go down in the History Channel pages as a break through Show as a new breed of TV shows. Jeffrey Wright was a perfect choice for narration. Benjamin Maccabee a perfect choice for the role of Hannibal Barca, Maccabee took the role to Higher standards Like George C Scott in Patton, Maccabee fit in the shoes of the greatest general in history Hannibal Barca. Maccabee a true star quality and truly one of the great ones. Richard Wilikinson who played the part of Scipio did a great job. Writers /Producers Hyman and Mcpherson truly did hit a home run with this show. Vin Diesel should take notes for his up and coming epic 'Hannibal Barca'.

May have aired under a different name

I believe this may have aired under the name, "Hannibal v. Rome." If so the film was mostly a good history lesson. It explains why Hannibal was considered such a historical hero. Besides using the first elephants used in warfare and his army's trip over the Alps, few people know much of Hannibal. Nor do they know what his motivation for fighting the Romans was. The film reenacts many of the scenes of him crossing the Alps. Showing elephants in this cold weather, one gets a sense for how impossible his mission was. Also, one senses the tremendous motivator he must have been to get his troops to follow him there. The historical research was excellent. Anyone wanting to know more about this part of history will want to watch. Narration documentaries like this are not exciting to watch.
