This movie broke the record of the longest interval between a prequel/midquel/sequel and its predecessor, previously held by Fantasia (1940) and Fantasia 2000 (1999). Bambi (1942) was released in 1942, Bambi II (2006) in 2006, sixty-four years later and the Fantasias were 59 years apart.
Even though the title is "Bambi II", this movie is not an actual follow-up to the first movie. It takes place in the middle of the first movie as in-between the time Bambi and The Great Prince walk together after Bambi's mother has died and the next Spring, that starts with the "Little Spring Song."
Patrick Stewart (The Great Prince) is the only actor to appear in the film who was alive at the time that Bambi (1942) was produced.
The background-paintings were painted with "Corel Photo Paint", but some of the original oil-painting backgrounds from the 1942 original movie were scanned with a computer, and parts of these scans were re-used in the new backgrounds.
This movie was released in theaters in twenty-five countries, but in the U.S., it was a direct-to-video release.
