Selected as the Thai entry in the Best Foreign Language Film category for the 2006 Academy Awards
The production team built several small size models and one actual size, operational tin dredge in order to film the movie.
Despite being named one of the best Thai movies and winning numerous awards in the country, the film failed terribly at Thai Box Office.
The movie is based on stories from Archin Panjabhak's short stories published in Thai newspaper about his experience working in two tin mines in the South of Thailand. The stories were eventually collected into three pocket books. At old age, Archin were awarded by Thai government's Fine Art Department as one of the nation's Most Valuable Artists in Literature.
Was selected by Thai Art Ministry as one of nation's "cultural treasure" in 2013.
