The Secret Life of...

I happened upon this show on the Food network quite by accident. Oh, what a delight. Jim O'Connor's charm, wit, enthusiasm and excitement about the foods and people he covers in his show are truly a joy to watch. The show is full of history and facts about all kinds of foods from dip to chips and cuisines from the southwestern US, Tex-Mex to Creole. Jim's infectious enthusiasm and positive nature comes across wonderfully as he interacts with folks from different backgrounds, cultures and walks of life. Come and discover how fun it can be to experience foods you've never heard of and learn more about the foods you've come to love. Jim brings a little Americana to every show, some which bring back fond memories as a child traveling this wonderful country with my parents. If you love food, you will love this show and Jim O'Connor who really makes the show a fun and happy experience. Jim, thanks for a great experience on every show! I look forward to the next great adventure!

Flipping through the TV and saw that The Secret Life of was on; gave George Duran a shot at being the host. I know that Jim O'Connor was very energetic and that nobody could be as much as him, but George was well dull. He really didn't seem to want to be hosting; his voice-overs were monotonous, didn't get involved with the guests. It seemed like he was interviewing guests for Unwrapped, and he just happened to be in the shot. I don't know if George is going to get "better" hosting this show, I doubt it because he has hosted his own show now. The show did seem to pack more info in, but only because we saw less of the host. The formula of this show was very delicate, and I fear it has now been disrupted for good.

Seriously what happened to Jim O'Connor? He was an excellent host on "The Secret Life Of...", and me and so many members of my family loved that show and Jim O'Connor who absolutely made that show. With his wonderful spirit and sense of wonder! He really had spirit and it made the show so refreshing to watch! I really hope they bring that show back with JIM!! Hes the best! Kathy and Family really love his work. I really think they should try this show again. It was also educational in a lot of ways! I really do hope they consider it. This man has what it takes to bring a show to life! We want more Jim. Also,his voice is another plus. So I really think he was the best host. I do hope they reconsider. Jim has that something special. Bring him back.

Big fans of Jim O'Connor on "The secret life of..."

At first I was not a Food Network fan, but after a few sittings of good shows I must admit that I am hooked. There are some wonderful shows there such as Good eats, Unwrapped and for those of us that are curious about the history of food, the Secret life of… offers us thirty minutes of interesting facts, places and different customs on cooking that we may take for granted.

1) Popcorn was present in 1620 at the first Thanksgiving,served as the basis for the very first breakfast cereal and boomed as a cheap affordable snack during The Great Depression

2) The birth of the ice cream cone was debut at the 1904 World's Fair.

Jim O'Connor as host may not be AB, has his annoying moments, but over all he does something that most of us would love to do. He gets to go into kitchens, try to cook something new, eat something different and in a way advertise the place he is in at that moment when he is showing their trademark food. How lucky is that guy for having that awesome of a job. If you ever have 30 minutes tune into Food network and give this show a chance. You never know what interesting historical fact you can learn about your favorite food.

Is he supposed to act like a child? Every time he walks into some new restaurant or candy factory he starts to act like a hyperactive little kid. He starts grabbing stuff and putting his head in ovens and heavy machinery like he's trying to find the little elves who live inside. If you watch the people he visits, you can totally see them rolling their eyes wondering what planet this guy came from. It's one thing to be curious and interested in the food he's discovering, but it's another to be a complete idiot. Case in point... he was making some food from Argentina and they had to draw out a map to show him where Argentina was!
