Hulk Hogan and Shawn Michaels were supposed to have had a series of PPV matches. Hogan declined and demanded he win their only encounter. This led to Michaels overselling almost every move Hogan did to him.
The love triangle between Lita, Matt Hardy, and Edge was very real. Hardy and Edge were very rough with each other and real punching and kicking sounds can be heard.

This was Hardy's first match in over a year, since SummerSlam 2004
Hulk Hogan's first SummerSlam appearance since 1991, it is also the last main event for Hogan in WWE career.
