Dramatic and touching
An interesting human story packed in a dramatic countdown of the greatest nature catastrophe from Hamburg in 1962. Hundreds of people were killed. I was surprised how real the special effects were executed. Some too long paced scenes but filled with some good sentimental moments. All the actors made a good job. Watch it you have really nothing other to do. 6/10
Rather well done... if you don't care about the script
The movie has nice special effects (especially when considering that a lot was computer generated, even rain..., and that in a TV movie), decent acting, nice sets and OK camera-work, soundtrack etc. But then the script... How could they? I could live with the clichés, but the love story was terrible. Bollywood can do it more believable. And the people who had to die... why? Overall I would say that you can actually watch the movie if you have nothing else to do, but just don't expect too much (but who would anyway when watching a RTL TV production?). It seems to me that the producers wanted something serious, if you consider the effort, the details they cared about. Something like Titanic (historical event + love story) but in failed. 5 out of 10, for the effort and the missing urge to switch off.
Land unter
The one thing I found very unrealistic was the successful doctor's rather conventional parents not batting an eyelid at his chosen bride being the single mother of someone else's child. It's the early 60s, mind.
Other than that, I rather liked it, good actors and a decent story all around. Helmut Schmidt - German Chancellor from 1974 to 1982, beautifully played by Christian Berkel - as the Hamburg senator running the rescue show in his well-known pragmatic and resolute way was my favourite storyline.

They are trying....as is the movie.....unfortunately
Yes I have only seen part 1 so far. But I certainly hope that it will be getting better with the next part. But so far it does a good job on the Sci Fi but fails on a personal level so far.
I know I am supposed to care about who the bride will choose. Should be voting for the poor sailor who didn't have a chance because his letters were hidden. Should care for the people around them...but they make it tough to really care for them with a writing style that would make the daily soap proud. Problems is...I don't like the daily soaps..never did never will. So that all in all the first part was only interesting for the waves getting higher and the waiting for the big ones.
Frankly the Docu that they brought after-wards about the events was a lot more catching and showed how much cheesy the movie paled in comparison to RL
