The Venom character has been a fixture of Marvel Comics for years. In recent years, he's become a global phenomenon to mainstream audiences too through his Tom Hardy-led movie trilogy, but the character has had a hardcore fanbase for decades since the character's emergence in the later 80's run of Spider-Man comics.

The Season 23 finale of “Law & Order” left the fate of Tony Goldwyn’s D.A. Nicholas Baxter up in the air on election night, but showrunner Rick Eid told TheWrap ahead of the Oct. 3 premiere that the character has indeed won and will be back for the entire season.

He also promised that Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) will be “a big part” of the second episode, about the murder of a tech CEO. “[Benson] has a pre-existing relationship with the defendant in this case,” said Eid. “It’s really a big part of the episode. It felt organic to who Mariska’s character is, and it was an interesting element to the story that gave it another layer.”

Eid said the crossover, which also sees the return of Elizabeth Marvel’s character Defense Attorney Rita Calhoun, is more “organic” than some of the previous three-series premieres that included “Law & Order: Organized Crime.

Karl Urban has starred in some of the biggest movies and franchises that catapulted his name in the industry. He has been in the Star Trek films, the MCU, The Boys, Riddick, and the Lord of The Rings franchises. The latter became his breakout project where he played Éomer, the leader of the Riders of Rohan.

The trilogy had some iconic scenes of battle as well as character-driven moments. One of them is undoubtedly the Forth Eorlingas scene in The Two Towers where Théoden and Aragorn are joined by Gandalf and the Rohirrim army led by Éomer. Just days before NBC’s trio of Law & Order series returns with new episodes, John Oliver had some choice words for the franchise, and its overlord Dick Wolf, on Sunday’s Last Week Tonight.

In the episode’s main segment (embedded above), Oliver took a deep dive into how cop shows “significantly distort the big picture of policing,” whether that means giving real-life police departments behind-the-scenes input on how they’re presented, or crafting a “false narrative of law enforcement” in which “exceptionally competent cops [are] working within a largely fair framework that mostly convicts white people.”

Exclusive: Kim Harrison, executive producer and co-showrunner of The Crossover, has signed an overall deal with 20th Television, the studio behind the upcoming basketball drama series for Disney+.

Under the pact, Harrison will develop new projects for 20th TV in addition to her work on The Crossover, which is based on the best-selling novel by Kwame Alexander. She serves as co-showrunner on the series alongside Alexander and Damani Johnson who wrote the pilot script together.

This, my dear hearts and gentle people, is that blessed event for the unnamed super-team of Jeff Lemire’s Black Hammer comics. [1] Oh, you may quibble that they have already met quite a lot of other superheroes and villains, fighting and teaming up and generating a lot of Licensable Content. But all of those previous encounters were from Lemire’s universe as well; those calls were all coming from inside the house.

For CBS’ Criminal Minds, the end begins this Wednesday at 9/8c, with a two-hour Season 15 premiere that updates us on Rossi’s ongoing obsession with “the Joker to his Batman” as well as forces JJ and Spencer to address the elephant that for them has been standing in the room for a long, “sad” six months.

In about three weeks’ time, The CW will conclude its biggest crossover event ever with “Crisis on Infinite Earths” Part Four and Five, which will see the remaining heroes of the Arrowverse put up one last stand against the Anti-Monitor.

The five-hour special event has so far delivered on its promises of grandeur by bringing together every superhero from the multiverse of DC and giving them a role in the story. CBS’ annual serving of colorized I Love Lucy episodes on Friday delivered 4.9 million total viewers — the night’s largest audience, edging out a Blue Bloods rerun (4.6 million) — while scoring a 0.5 rating, which tied an NBC Dateline rerun for second place in the demo.

Fox’s Friday Night SmackDown (2.4 million total viewers/0.7 rating) held steady week-to-week, dominating Friday in the demo.

Mxyzptlk is headed back to Supergirl — but there’s a twist: Thomas Lennon (The Odd Couple, Reno 911!) will now play the reality-bending trickster nicknamed Mxy, who was previously portrayed by Peter Gadiot (Once Upon a Time in Wonderland), our sister site Deadline reports.

Gadiot’s Mxy came to National City from the Fifth Dimension in a two-episode Season 2 storyline, during which he unsuccessfully attempted to romance Kara Danvers. The character’s ability to shapeshift will play into his new appearance in the back half of Season 5.

Here’s the thing: We understand that TV characters aren’t real people, but it still hurts when our favorites suddenly die on us, making the past calendar year especially rough for Team TVLine.

Sure, there were a few deaths we saw coming — like Riverdale‘s Fred Andrews, who received an emotional sendoff several months after his portrayer, Luke Perry, died in real life — but some of this year’s losses were so unexpected, we’re still struggling to accept that the characters are really gone.

DC Universe’s next live-action series “Stargirl” will get a second run on The CW broadcast network, it was announced on Thursday.

“Stargirl,” which stars Brec Bassinger as the title character, will air new episodes on The CW, one day after they premiere on DC Universe. The series will premiere sometime during the second quarter of 2020. Episodes will also be available on The CW’s digital platforms, including CW Seed.

The deal for “Stargirl” is similar to how Warner Bros. is treating the second season of “Doom Patrol,” which will stream its second season on both DC Universe and HBO Max, WarnerMedia’s streaming service launching next May.

It looks like Supergirl and Batwoman are fast friends.

“Supergirl” star Melissa Benoist shared a photo with Ruby Rose as Batwoman to Instagram on Friday, making us even more excited for the upcoming “Arrowverse” crossover on The CW. “indicative of my excitement that she’s here and kicking ass,” she captioned the photo.

The crossover — titled “Elseworlds” — will introduce Rose as the out superhero before getting her own show on The CW from from executive producers Greg Berlanti and Caroline Dries.

Benoist has been busy sharing photos for fans since production started on the three-night event.

Last week, she shared a photo with Tyler Hoechlin, who is reprising his role as Superman for the “Elseworlds”-themed crossover, and Elizabeth Tulloch, who will be joining the heroes as Lois Lane.

The nominees are in for the 60th Annual Grammy Awards, and music's biggest night will feature some of your favorite artists ...though some were snubbed.

Singer-songwriter Andra Day announced the four major categories -- Best New Artist, Record Of The Year, Song Of The Year, and Album Of The Year -- on Tuesday's CBS This Morning.

As far as snubs go, Ed Sheeran was only nominated for Best Pop Solo Performance for his track, "Shape of You," to the shock of many of his fans. Lady Gaga and Kesha also received minimal nominations, despite the popularity of their albums.

However, Jay-Z and Kendrick Lamar earned quite a few Grammy nods, as well as Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee's "Despacito" song that features Justin Bieber.

While Kevin Feige once stated it was “inevitable” that Marvel movies and TV shows would crossover, that comment is a rare deviation from his standard explanation, which usually sees him diplomatically point to the vastly different development schedules between the small and big screen as a big factor why Daredevil won’t ever rumble alongside the Avengers at the multiplex. Essentially, the TV shows are pretty far behind in the timeline, with even the latest “Iron Fist” referring to “the incident” from “The Avengers.” But beyond that, Kevin Feige’s movies and Jeph Loeb‘s TV shows are being made in completely different spheres; basically, don’t hold your breath for a crossover.

Overlapping with both Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Voyager, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine's seven seasons had some very high points, It also had some very low ones that strayed a bit too far from the core of Star Trek for some fans, yet gave the show a unique texture that some savor.

If you only ever watch 25 stories from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, these are they, at least in my opinion – the only rule being that multi-part episodes count as one story (but great big multi-season Dominion flavored arcs don't!)

Many Star Trek fans have long been hopeful that CBS may yet announce the remastering of Deep Space Nine for high definition and thus Blu-ray.

It’s been a surprisingly interesting month of moving and shaking in terms of doc development. Just a month after making his first public funding pitch at Toronto’s Hot Docs Forum, legendary doc filmmaker Frederick Wiseman took to Kickstarter to help cover the remaining expenses for his 40th feature film In Jackson Heights (see the film’s first trailer below). Unrelentingly rigorous in his determination to capture the American institutional landscape on film, his latest continues down this thematic rabbit hole, taking on the immensely diverse New York City neighborhood of Jackson Heights as his latest subject. According to the Kickstarter page, Wiseman is currently editing the 120 hours of rushes he shot with hopes of having the film ready for a fall festival premiere (my guess would be Tiff, where both National Gallery and At Berkeley made their North American debut), though he’s currently quite a ways away from his $75,000 goal.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has revealed its 276-member-strong class of 2013.

The list, published by The Hollywood Reporter, includes actors, cinematographers, designers, directors, documentarians, executives, film editors, makeup artists and hairstylists, "members-at-large," musicians, producers, PR folks, short filmmakers and animators, sound technicians, visual effects artists, and writers.

Jason Bateman, Rosario Dawson, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Milla Jovovich, Lucy Liu, Jennifer Lopez, Emily Mortimer, Sandra Oh, Jason Schwartzman, and Michael Peña are among the roster of actors, while "The Heat" and "Bridesmaids" helmer Paul Feig made the directors' cut.

"We did not change our criteria at all," says Academy president Hawk Koch of this year's larger-than-usual class. "Yes, this year there is a tremendous amount of women, a tremendous amount of people of color, people from all walks of life. This year, we asked the branches to look at everybody who wasn't in the Academy but who deserved to be.

That’s 100 more than last year, and part of an easing of a longstanding cap on the number of new members allowed to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences each year.

AMPAS usually adds between 130 and 180 new members, replacing those who have quit or passed away. The membership now stands around 6,000.

Jason Bateman, Jennifer Lopez, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Emmanuelle Riva, and Chris Tucker are among the actors who have been invited to join, the organization announced today.
