The game was originally going to have a new weapon known as the beam gun, as well as a duel-wielding mechanic, but unfortunately, they were cut from the final product for unknown reasons. In 2021, however, Croteam recently released an update for the steam version of the game that includes the duel-wielding mechanic and the beam gun in an attempt to improve the game-play experience.
One of the enemies in this game, known as the Rollerball, later makes an appearance in Serious Sam VR: The Last Hope, which so far makes it the only enemy from Serious Sam 2 to appear in any future Serious Sam game.
