Moomins (1977)

Trivia

Moomins

Edit
Even though the Moomin books are written in Swedish, only episodes 1-13 were originally aired in Sweden, narrated by Birgitta Ulfsson. A new not yet restored Swedish version narrated by Mark Levengood, also including additional voice actors, was aired in Sweden in 2008, but it still wasn't the complete series. Then starting in 2010 the complete restored version was broadcast, with the same narrator and mostly the same voice actors as in the 2008 version.
There are four main versions of the series:

1) 1977-1982 original 4:3 version: 78 episodes, 8-10 minutes long. In Polish narrated by Stanislaw Wyszynski (12 episodes) and Stanislaw Kwasniak (66 episodes) with music by Andrzej Rokicki, in German narrated by Hans Clarin with large parts of Rokicki's music replaced by music by Eugen Illin.

2) 1980-1983 edited German version: 26 episodes combining three of the original episodes into one and cut slightly.

3) 1983 edited English version: 100 episodes, 5 minutes long. Narrated by Richard Murdoch with music by Graeme Miller and Steve Shill. Total duration much shorter than the other versions.

4) 2010 restored 16:9 HD version: The original 78 episodes, available in multiple languages. With a re-written script including not only a narrator but voice actors too. Features both Andrzej Rokicki's and Evzen Illín's music (Rokicki's more prominent than in the original German version), new sound effects, a new title song and new opening and closing credits.
The first 15 episodes of the series, from Wiosna w Dolinie (1977) to Powrót z wyspy (1979), are based on the Moomin book "Finn Family Moomintroll" (original title in Swedish: "Trollkarlens hatt"; Finnish: "Taikurin hattu") from 1948 by the Finnish author Tove Jansson. It was the first Moomin book published in English, but actually the third in the series.
The episodes #37-47 of the series, from Noc grozy (1980) to Stary adres (1981), are based on the fifth Moomin book "Moominsummer Madness" (original title in Swedish: "Farlig midsommar"; Finnish: "Vaarallinen juhannus") by the Finnish author Tove Jansson. It was first published in 1954. The feature-length film Moomin and Midsummer Madness (2008) is also created and compiled from these Moominsummer Madness-based episodes of the television series.
The episodes #48-60 of the series, from Zwyczajny Dzien (1981) to Kometa nad Dolina (1981), are based on the second Moomin book "Comet in Moominland" (original title in Swedish: "Kometjakten"; Finnish: "Muumipeikko ja pyrstötähti") by the Finnish author Tove Jansson. It was first published in 1946 and revised in 1968. The feature-length film Moomins and the Comet Chase (2010) is also created and compiled from these Comet in Moominland-based episodes of the television series.
