Actor Kari-Pekka Toivonen played the part of Jussi Vares in the Finnish summer stock theater in Naantali (produced by Linnateatteri at the Emma Teatteri) in 2008 and 2023. He also directed the play "Vares & nuoruustango" there in 2011, where Jukka Rasila played the lead role.
In a deleted scene from the film (included on the DVD), Vares already has an encounter with Veikko Hopea (played by Jussi Lampi) on the bus going from Turku to Pori.
