The title of episode 9, "Te capium, cunicule sceleste!", translates into "I'll get you, you wascally wabbit!" is a reference to Elmer Fudd of Looney Tunes cartoons.
Negi's name is actually a pun. In Japanese, Negi means scallion, or green onions or Welsh onions, and are also in the same family as leek, which is a national symbol of Wales, where Negi comes from. Many of his students address him using the playful "-bozu" honorific, which means something along the lines of "kiddo" or "squirt", but "negibozu" ("onion head") is also a slang term meaning a callow or inexperienced youth.
The official names for the episodes are in Latin with the episode numbers written in Roman numerals. Additionally, each episode name is a Latin phrase.
All the songs in the series are sung by the voice actors of the girls in Negi's class. Each version is sung by a group of five or six of the girls, organized by seat number.
Nodoka's nickname, Honya, means Bookstore.
