The director of the film, Jamie Dixon, wanted to reuse the puppets and animatronics of Bats that were used in the first film however almost all of them were broken and in poor condition so only CGI was used to create the bats.
Lou Diamond Phillips and Dina Meyer initially had participation in the film, in fact they were hired by Destination Films to participate in the sequel however their contract expired in 2005.
This film is considered an independent sequel due to the fact that it deals with another story with another species of bats. However Jamie Dixon said that the character Dr. Benton Walsh was involved in the creation of the bats of the first film and that in this sequel he wanted to get money from his experiments, marketing the bats as biological weapons.
Within the film it is remarkable that there is more blood, deaths and victims. This was because many horror movie fans complained about the absence of these elements in the first movie.
Initially it would have a screening and release in cinemas but the Syfy channel managed to persuade the production company to obtain the broadcasting license in exchange for advertising and distributing the movie on DVD.
