    More Soap with oats.

This show just drags on and on. I'm pretty sure this is another storyline that was copped from an earlier western. Just updated to fit with the rich Barkley story.

Note: It's hot. Really hot! Story starts out that way and we are reminded several times about how hot it is.

But Barbara Stanwyck never takes off her leather jacket or leather gloves. Even when she's stuck in that big steel box of a prison wagon.

One woman as good as another

When Barbara Stanwyck is out visiting some mining properties in a nearby town she gets grabbed by some prison guards and made to take the place of a woman they had been transporting to serve her sentence at Furnace Hill prison. Just the name conjures up things that will creep you out, And if that doesn't do it Bruce Dern the guard in charge will creep you out even more. Dern is playing one of his patented low lifes which he did so well in his younger days. Stanwyck's salvation may come from the other prisoner Fritz Weaver who has a class distinction problem with her. Weaver resents the Barkley wealth and position, but he's all Stanwyck has. I always like the episodes that feature Stanwyck and shw gets good support rom Weaver and Dern.

    • Trivia
Barbara Stanwyck did all her own stunts - even being dragged through the dirt with a rope around her waist.
    • Goofs
Though the characters are supposed to be traveling many miles during the show, they seem to be going in circles. The famous geological formation and movie & TV location known as Vasquez Rocks, can be seen throughout the show, right up to the final scenes. Vasquez Rocks has very noticeable, diagonally oriented formations.

[to cover up the murder of a female prisoner, the guards kidnap Victoria]

Victoria Barkley: Let me out of here! Let me out of here!

Burke Jordan: The last lady that yelled that never got back in again. Better save your strength. You're going to need it when you get to Furnance Hill.

      Victoria Barkley: Furnance Hill?

Burke Jordan: Never heard of it? It's a prison due east of here... about four days as the buzzards fly.
