Rolfe Kanefsky said the Butterscotch films are lighthearted with lots of slapstick. They're like sex films for the family, referring to them as "Disney with nudity and sex."
Kim Dawson said she had a hard time coming up with the right way to play over-the-top Madame Nirvana. Then director Rolfe Kanefsky told her to play her like veteran stage and movie star Ethel Merman. Dawson had no idea who that was, so Kanefsky had to imitate her and that's what Dawson based the character on.
