Although in this episode Joey claims to Ross he does not get the "quotation mark/inverted commas" gesture, in The One with Rachel's Date (2001), when Ross refers to Kash as "an actor" accompanying it by the same gesture, Joey takes offense and - clearly understanding the gesture.
