Some fun moments in this episode.

The Scented Room is very much one of the locked room mysteries, only this time there's no corpse, no vanished person, but a missing piece of priceless artwork.

Adam Klaus has another fantastic illusion, the scene where the crew are battered by a worried pensioner is hilarious, very madcap. Creek is wonderfully smug as he knows the answers within minutes, but enjoys tormenting his critic.

It's always lovely to see Bob Monkhouse in a serious role, he is much missed. I loved his scenes with Davies.

It's a smart mystery, the case itself isn't a favourite, but the character play is glorious. 8/10.

    • Trivia
The shots of Maddy's house being knocked down were actually reused from an episode of A Touch of Frost (1992), as there were no suitable demolitions taking place in London at the time of production.
    • Goofs
When Sylvester Le Fley (Bob Monkhouse) is informed of the missing artwork by Eric the Watchman (Peter Copley), he runs across the lawn barefoot to the house. When first seen running through the house he's wearing canvas shoes which then disappear as he enters the crime scene and he is once again barefoot.
    • Quotes

Sylvester Le Fley: I make no secret of my aversion to your particular art form, Mr Creek. However, I concede its relevance to the problems in hand. If you have any insights, we'd be pleased to hear them.

      Jonathan Creek: It's a stumper. No question... I'm afraid I can't help.

Sylvester Le Fley: So this has been a complete waste of our time? It's defeated everyone else. Lord knows why we expected these two to fare any better.

Jonathan Creek: I didn't say it'd defeated me. I know exactly how your painting disappeared, Mr Le Fley. I'm just not going to tell you.
