Mare Strogen for Women Beauty and Hormone
In Williston, North Dakota, the rider Sally Dumont is attacked in her stable and left unconscious. Then she finds her mare murdered in her stall. Frank Black travels to the town and meets Sheriff Falkner that is treating the case without great importance. Frank explains that twenty-one horses have been killed in that are in the past two years and the attacker is escalating and may become a serial-killer. The police find the word "Help" written in blood and semen in the stable, and Frank is afraid that the killer may be feeling pleasure after attacking a woman. Peter Watts also helps the investigation. Soon the killer attacks pigs in a truck with a cattle prod and when the owner approaches him, he kills the man. The Sheriff believes there is no connection between the attacks, but Frank and Peter believe that based on the boot prints and the cattle prod in the crime scene, the killer works in a slaughterhouse. Frank suggests a phone number for the killer contacting him and soon a woman named Mary Ann and her mare are found murdered, and the phrase "Thank You" painted on a wall in blood. When Frank talks to the veterinarian Claudia Vaughan about the murders, he learns about estrogen produced for the cosmetic industry produced by Premarin farms and finds a clue to find the killer.
"Broken World" is an interesting episode of "Millennium" that returns to serial-killers plots. The profiler Frank Black of the Millennium Group (and certainly many viewers like me) learns that there are Premarin farms where mares are kept pregnant to use their urine to produce estrogen for the cosmetic and pharmaceutical industry. Their foals are killed to use their meat for cooking purpose. The serial-killer Willi Borgsen is really a sick man ironically killed by the horses in the slaughterhouse. There is a chemistry between Claudia Vaugh and Frank Black along the story. My vote is eight.

Yet another episode that demonstrates the depth millennium tried to have. The series eventually dwelled too much on religious conspiracies but at this point it still had great episodes about the causes of, and mental traits of serial killers. This episode in particular pointed out that resorting to violence is not powerful but being powerless to ones rage. It would be useful if all teenagers were to see this one, but only if they got the underlying message the script writer was hoping to convey. Final verdict: the closest millennium got to a straight FBI profiler type show, not an example of its later weirdness.. great episode but then again I am bias a smidgen.

- TriviaThis episode's original title was "Equus", the Latin name for horse and of course the title of Peter Shaffer's famous play.
- GoofsAs the horses begin to attack Willi, a crew member (red shirt, black cowboy hat) can be seen closing the gate to the pen.
