    Romance for Mikey.

Michael's going on his first date, Janey sets her sights on a pair of Prada jeans, despite Susan's protestations.

Funny, this is where the setup of this comedy works full well, different generations of the family making the same mistakes, repeating the same errors, all under the watchful eyes of Ben and Susan.

Some funny scenes, including Nick coaching Michael on the art of dating, and the cinema scene.

    Very funny, 7/10.

    The Awkward Phase

'My Family' really hit the ground running, and this is an excellent episode from the first series.

With Bridgette seemingly just starting working for Ben you do wonder whether this was really supposed to be the first episode of the show ever.

It does feel a little like a Pilot episode, with all the characters and their dynamics being established. The balance of heart and humour here is excellent too.

Lots of lovely moments, and I really enjoy these early versions of both Ben and Janey.

Susan: Sometimes you behave as if you don't like the children.

Ben Harper: I... er... It's not a question of like or dislike. It's a question of fear. I'm... I'm frightened of them. Two extremes, Susan: either they ignore you, which is demeaning, or they turn to you for answers, which is terrifying.
