When Laraine Day declines an offer for cocktails, she is admitting to a personal choice in her real life. She was devout member of the Church of the Latter Day Saints (i.e., Mormon) and throughout her life refrained from swearing, smoking, and drinking alcohol, coffee, or tea.
Laraine Day and Leo Durocher were married in 1947 (although it wasn't until 1948 that their marriage was recognized as legal) and divorced in 1960. They adopted two children: Melinda (b. 1944) and Chris (b. 1945). They had no children born to them.
