    A Good Beginning

Patty and Lauren are two awkward teen age girls who strive to be popular at their first day of high school.

A very funny pilot episode, all the characters are introduced and the writing is very sharp. Patty is shy with glasses and Lauren is overweight with braces. The assembly scene begins with perky Muffy and nerdy principal Mr Dingleman. Then we meet popular girl Jennifer who says "like" every other word and her sassy best friend LaDonna. Jennifer's boy friend is Vinnie a handsome but dumb guy who acts like a cross between Stallone and Travolta. They ridicule Patty and Lauren who then make friends with class clown Marshall and Johnny Slash, a spacey New Waver. Everyone of them get some funny lines and scenes. The plot of this one has the handsome senior Larry talking to Patty, They all end up at a dance at the end where the Waitresses perform their hit "I Know What Boys Like" and the series title song.
