    How It Began

This is the first part of an unusual episode. We get an historical view of how St. Elegius came to be. The founding priest, an unconventional man, faces lots of odds, even within the Catholic church. We also go to 1975 when Westphall lost his wife. There are also other pivotal events in that history. In current time a guy comes in with a high fever and lower extremity paralysis. Finally, Morrison's little boy is being taken away by a man.

    • Trivia
William Russ guest stars as Patrick O'Casey, the first heart bypass patient for Dr. Mark Craig (William Daniels) at St. Eligius, in a flashback to 1975. Daniels and Russ would later co-star as neighbors George Feeny and Alan Matthews in Boy Meets World (1993) from 1993 to 2000.
    • Quotes

Monsignor: I don't like you, McCabe. You're a smoothie from Southie. You wear a clerical collar and convince people you're a good person without doing anything to earn it.

Father Joseph McCabe: And you're a petty bureaucrat who uses the power of the Catholic Church as if Jesus Christ was your idea.
