In the not-so-good old days, summer used to be a break for more than just students. It was time off from great TV, as broadcast networks aired reruns, sports, and reality competitions while they assumed people were outside having fun. But since the new golden age began, all these TV shows have had to fit in somewhere, and many networks chose to run them during the less competitive summer months.
That’s led to a boon of TV’s best shows popping up when no series dared debut before. So, to honor the latest summer sensation — Netflix’s “Glow” — we’ve gathered the elite qualifiers below and ranked the seasons by overall quality, summer spirit, and re-watchability. The end is finally upon us. “The Leftovers” airs its final episode this Sunday on HBO, and with it comes the close of one of television’s all-time great drama series. Over the course of its three-season run, “The Leftovers” has earned acclaim for Damon Lindelof and Tom Perrotta, as well as the ensemble cast, but it would be a shame to say goodbye to this series without spotlighting the men and women behind the camera.
“The Leftovers” and its point-of-view storytelling always allowed different directors to leave their mark on the series. Through memorable sequences and shots, these seven directors made “The Leftovers” an emotionally visceral and downright spiritual experience. It’s safe to say there won’t be another series like it for some time, but television is in good hands as long as these filmmakers are guiding it.

Will Ferrell's George W. Bush served as one of the special guests at Samantha Bee and Full Frontal's "Not the White House Correspondents Dinner" special Saturday night in Washington, D.C.
"How do you like me now, huh?" "Bush" asked the room as he stamped out a cigarette with his shoe. "The prodigal son has returned. I don't know what that means but it's positive."
"Bush" then commented on his own "strained, contentious" relationship with the press.

This week’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. featured the return of a familiar face from a previous iteration of the team, in another wild Framework escapade that resulted in a most heroic death.

No one who has watched even 30 seconds of “The Leftovers” would tell you it’s a cheery show. HBO’s ambitious, poignant, and periodically gut-wrenching drama often chases one devastating moment with another, occasionally pausing to give the viewer a brief, teary respite — if we’re lucky.
Enter Season 3. In any given episode of “The Leftovers,” tears are a sure thing, but there are scenes that spark tears of joy. From Nora’s awkwardly endearing comebacks (“Fuck your daughter!”) to Kevin’s attempts at family bonding to a giant blow-up doll of Gary Busey, the laughs are there, if you can smile through the pain.

From 1981 onwards, Jackie Chan, Sammo Hung and Yuen Biao (The Three Dragons) were about to embark on a sensational journey, progressing from there Kung Fu genre into modern-day Martial Arts and stunt work, something Shaw Brothers were left behind and Golden Harvest was to be the new global company.
Jackie Chan back then headed to the United states to try to break into the international market, but the movies he appeared in didn’t really take off and Jackie was also disappointed with the filming of The Big Brawl. When it comes to making features like this one, i love the idea of coming up with my own personal “100 Great Kung Fu Movies” of all time. It is tough choosing just 100 because you know there are many more great Kung Fu movies that are not on the list.
I understand everyone will have their own personal favorites and some may not agree with my list and that’s fine because it’s nice to have different opinions on this genre which keeps it fresh and alive when having good debates.
Anyway, thank you for taking time to have a look at my 100 Great Kung Fu movie list and feel free to add any movies in the comment box if they don’t make my list (I have probably forgotten many movies).

Golden Harvest started in 1970, after Raymond Chow had left Shaw Brothers studios along with producer Leonard Ho and decided to start there own company and go up against the dominance of Shaw Brothers.
Shaw Brothers had been the leading studio for many years, showcasing legendary Directors, Actors and Marital Artists. Raymond Chow and Leonard Ho knew they had to come with something big and make a huge noise in the world of cinema and indeed they did just that. They made a few movies in 1971 such as The Angry River, Lady Whirlwind and One Armed Boxer. But one Actor stood out over the rest, showcasing his incredible talent for the first time in a big movie and his name was Bruce Lee. When the Big Boss premiered in Hong Kong, the audience cheered and mobbed Bruce after the movie had ended.

Since its heyday, kung fu seems to be giving way to other action genres, but could it be making a comeback?
There was a time when everyone was indeed kung fu fighting. Films belonging to the genre, made popular in the 1970s by the late Bruce Lee, helped to boost Hong Kong cinema, not to mention the careers of various Chinese actors such as Jackie Chan, Sammo Hung and Jet Li. However, in recent years, it seems that the kung fu film is losing the raw bad-assery that fans have grown up watching. As martial arts films are now evolving to feature more computer animation and culture rather than pure, unadulterated violence, has kung fu lost its touch?
The first kung fu film dates back to the late 1930s, when folk heroes and famed martial artists Fong Sai-Yuk and Wong Fei-Hung were immortalised for the first time (they would...

The Leftovers, Season 1, Episode 10, “The Prodigal Son Returns”
Written by Damon Lindelof & Tom Perrotta
Directed by Mimi Leder
Airs Sundays at 10pm Est on HBO
“He’s never coming for us, is he?”
Christine asks this to Tommy in regards to Wayne, but in a series that asks all the Big Questions by virtue of its premise, that’s not the whole story. Whether she realizes it or not, what Christine’s really wondering is if God is coming, and what’s remarkable here is that she could be speaking for every single character in the series, which just goes to show exactly how focused we have come since its strange beginnings.
In its first five episodes, The Leftovers danced around the Sudden Departure that ruled these characters’ lives. Now that it’s finally been being dealt with head on, both by the writers, and by the characters themselves, the real magic has been happening.

I’ve gone back and forth on HBO’s The Leftovers throughout its first season, which always felt like two shows forcefully pressed up against one another.
A lot of that has to stem from the two showrunners, Tom Perrotta and Damon Lindelof, one a delicate writer fascinated by human emotion and the other a divisive bigwig famed for ambitious and baffling television. The Leftovers tried to deliver all the intrigue of Lost combined with the devastating impact of something like Rectify. Was it successful? Occasionally.
At its best, the show was able to balance the two styles, resulting in some truly incredible hours (my favorite is likely still “Guest”), but it wasn’t always an easy watch. I’m still bitter about “Gladys,” a punishing episode (I can never unsee that brutal death by stoning, but no satisfying reason has been given as to why such a shocking scene...

I’m still bitter about “Gladys,” a punishing episode (I can never unsee that brutal death by stoning, but no satisfying reason has been given as to why such a shocking scene...

"The Leftovers" wrapped up its first season earlier this evening. A review of the finale coming up just as soon as we have different physiques... In the end, it was the goddamn dog that wrecked me. Love it or hate it — and 50-odd savage minutes of "The Prodigal Son" absolutely affirmed my love for it — "The Leftovers" isn't really like anything else on television, past or present. Structurally, it has a passing resemblance to a few other series (including Damon Lindelof's previous one). But in terms of tone and substance, as well as its focus on the emotional and spiritual health of its characters far ahead of any questions of plot, it's an original. Even with the book to adapt(*), there was no real template for Lindelof and Tom Perrotta to follow in crafting a finale for this season. (*) And, for what it's worth, the finale pretty much exhausts...

Critics and scholars often refer to young, accomplished Québécois filmmaker Xavier Dolan as the “enfant terrible” of French-Canadian cinema. This moniker is likely not because Dolan is breaking the rules and conventions of filmmaking though, because for the most part, he is not. Instead, it could be due to how his stories focus on actual enfant terribles, fussy and privileged kids going through issues of sexuality, identity and self-worth.
Dolan is far from the Godard of modern Québécois cinema, but more akin to Truffaut, full of freewheeling energy and insight and throttled by character rather than concept. Just 25 years old, the director is already making one good or interesting film a year and in 2014, he has just given us his most accomplished feature yet, Cannes favorite Mommy, which features the most terrible enfant in any film from recent memory.

Though China has become an influential piece on the global chess board of late, the roots of cinema can be traced all the way back to the Western world. Following the inception of the movie camera in the early 1880s, films slowly grew in commercial prowess and once Hollywood established itself as an economic powerhouse in the 1920s, the motion picture became king. This western-centric ideology has spanned almost a hundred years, survived two world wars and, to this day, remains the crux of the cinematic world. In fact, the Us was responsible for approximately 62% of the global box office share in 2012. So, while movies such as Hansel & Gretel and Transformers: Dark of the Moon performed better overseas and cinema markets in India and Nigeria continue to grow and diversify; the Us remains the dominant force by quite a margin. And this dominance has consequences.

Keith Olbermann is getting back into broadcasting.
Turner Sports said Wednesday that it is hiring Olbermann to host its baseball studio show for the postseason. He will team with Hall of Fame pitcher Dennis Eckersley.
Olbermann most recently did a political show at Current TV before he had a falling-out with his bosses. While generally acknowledged to be a smart and witty broadcaster, off-screen battles with executives have kept him jumping to different jobs.

Christopher Nolan's Batman series will reach its zenith this weekend when the capper on the trilogy, "The Dark Knight Rises," blasts its way into the geekosphere.
All you need to do to rise to the occasion is to have watched the previous two films, "Batman Begins" and "The Dark Knight," about a thousand times like we have… or simply read our easily absorbed recap below.
Think of it as Reader's Digest, but with more grappling hooks.
Bruce Wayne Enters the Ninja
At the start of "Batman Begins" Nolan reintroduces us to the Caped Crusader mythos "Memento"-style, flashing forward and backward through Bruce Wayne's formative years as young boy Bruce sees his parents killed, then, years later, college dropout Bruce (Christian Bale) watches their killer, Joe Chill, murdered by the mob. With his plans for direct revenge thwarted, his childhood sweetheart, Rachel Dawes (Katie Holmes), convinces him that vengeance...

The Legend Of Wing Chun is the latest offering kung fu legend Yuen Biao, also starring Jade Xu, Zhou Yang and legend Cheng Pei Pei.
We have many movies lately focusing of the art of Wing Chun, one of my favorite styles to watch on screen, since Sammo Hung brought it to the screen in movies such as Warriors Two, The prodigal Son and the latest movies Ip Man.

I thought it was about time i did a post on the great vampire buster of all time, yes you got it, lam Ching Ying. This will be listing all the movies and tv series where Lam Ching Ying either stars in or takes on the hopping vampires and evil spirits.
His roles in the Mr.Vampire movies show his skills as an actor, with great comic timing which goes well with his serious acting side, which we normally get to see on screen. This role would make him, not just a big star in Asia but also worldwide as the master of Vampire killers.
Other great movies which he starred in (But not in a vampire movie) were the likes of The Prodigal Son, School On Fire, Eastern Condors, The Magnificent Butcher and Painted Faces.
I have been a big fan of these movies since i first watched Mr.
