Noggin, Paramount Global’s interactive learning subscription service for preschoolers, is shutting down, sources tell Deadline. The Nick Jr.-affiliated app is slated to sunset this year, with the majority of its staff let go in the latest round of layoffs at Paramount Global on Tuesday that impacted about 800 U.S. employees.
As Noggin stops taking new subscribers, there will be a transition period for current ones. Noggin predated Paramount Global’s flagship streamer Paramount+, which has been carrying Noggin’s video content under the Nick Jr. preschool brand.
The development comes almost a year after Paramount reportedly explored a sale of a majority stake in Noggin as the company shifted priorities — and resources — to Paramount+ and Pluto TV.
Noggin was co-founded by Nickelodeon parent MTV Networks and Sesame Workshop and originally launched Feb. 2, 1999 as a cable television channel and a companion website focused on imagination, creativity, and education.

Composer Robert Lopez has made Egot history in a number of ways, but his wife and musical collaborator Kristen Anderson-Lopez is closing in on him, and before long they could become the first husband-and-wife duo in history to win the showbiz grand slam. This year they share two nominations for their work on the Disney+ limited series “WandaVision,” and if they win one or both of them, Anderson-Lopez will cross the third prize off her list.
Robert Lopez completed his Egot in 2014 with his Oscar win for the original song “Let it Go” from “Frozen.” That made him the youngest ever to achieve the feat (he was 39), the fastest to achieve it (10 years), and eventually he became the first to win all four of those coveted awards multiple times. Before he teamed creatively with his better half he won Tonys for composing “Avenue Q” (2004) and “The Book of Mormon” (2011), as...

Robert Lopez is not only an Egot winner, but he’s also the youngest to reach it (at 39 years and 8 days old) and is the first to achieve a double Egot, having won each accolade twice. But there are some who feel his Egot ought to be asterisked because his two Emmys are Daytime Emmys, but Lopez can now shut those haters up in one fell swoop with double Primetime Emmy wins this year.
Shared with his wife Kristen Anderson-Lopez, Lopez nabbed two nominations for “WandaVision”: music and lyrics for “Agatha All Along” and main title theme music. These are his fourth and fifth Primetime Emmy bids; he previously lost the songwriting category for “Scrubs” in 2007, and “The Comedians” and the Oscars, both in 2015.

Update, with Leslie Odom Jr., Daveed Diggs nominations No one’s saying it will be easy, but Hamilton actors Renée Elise Goldsberry, Leslie Odom Jr. and Daveed Diggs, along with WandaVision songwriter Kristen Anderson-Lopez, each came a little closer today to the rarified Egot status with their respective Emmy Award nominations.
Goldsberry was nominated for her supporting turn as Angelica Schuylerin in Hamilton, which has already earned her a Tony Award and Grammy Award. An Emmy win (in the supporting actress in a limited series or TV movie category) would put her an Oscar away from Egot status.
The actress’ nomination today for Hamilton was one of 12 received by the filmed Broadway musical, including performance nominations for Lin-Manuel Miranda (who himself is one Oscar short of Egot) and Leslie Odom Jr. The Disney+ musical was nominated in the outstanding Variety Special (pre-recorded) category, along with fellow...

The target audience for "Frozen" was tucked in bed by the time Idina Menzel showed up on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon," but her performance is proof positive that adults can't resist the Oscar-winning tune either.
Menzel sang a slightly less bombastic version of "Let It Go" in a pre-recorded bit with Fallon and The Roots, who played along on kids' toys. It's nothing short of adorable, especially when Questlove takes out his kazoo. And it's a refreshing change for those of us who have listened to the soundtrack on repeat for the past few months, whether by choice or by demand.
Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez, who wrote "Let It Go," won an Oscar for Best Original Song; their thank-you speech was equally charming. Robert Lopez is now the youngest person with an Egot, a term coined by Philip Michael Thomas that is short for Emmy, Grammy, Oscar,...

These days especially, what matters in a three-and-a-half hour awards show like Sunday's 86th annual Academy Awards is not who won or lost -- though the victories for Steve McQueen's "12 Years a Slave" and Alfonso Cuaron's "Gravity" seemed to be part of history in the making -- but which moments were most likely to go viral.

This year, Oscar night was all about 12 Years a Slave‘s Lupita Nyong’o and Matthew McConaughey’s career makeover. But it’s also important to celebrate what those in the biz regard as a ginormous accomplishment: the Egot. (That’s Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony Award). Robert Lopez is now a member of the prestigious club, thanks to his Best Original Song Oscar win for the infectious “Let It Go” from Frozen. He’s also the youngest person to ever achieve such a feat. Time to move over, Whoopi Goldberg. (Keep on working at your craft, Tracy Jordan.)
The Frozen composer got some major prime-time love at tonight’s Academy Awards, but he’s no stranger to fancy award shows. Broadway smash The Book of Mormon earned him two Tony Awards for Best Original Score and Best Book; 2003′s Avenue Q won him a Tony Award for Best Original Score.

It didn’t take long for Amazon to show that it’s really getting behind its original programming theory. It doesn’t seem that long since we were running through the pilots and filling out polls, but Amazon is already saying it wants to see more, and continue on this road.
Five more shows aimed at children will produce pilots in the hopes of getting a series green light, and like the last set of children’s programming, these look like they’ll be great shows. Amazon Studios kids shows were the best part of the initial run of pilots for me, and I think they may be aiming to make a real push into the market with these additional titles.

Every movie-loving parent has been there: the first time you take your kid to the movies. It's a momentous occasion. In honor of the new romantic comedy "Friends With Kids," which, as the title implies, follows the many little triumphs and tragedies that accompany transitioning from a childless circle of friends to a clique of new (and perpetually exhausted) parents, we bring you some basic tips on how to survive the first trip to the multiplex with your kid. 1. Pick an age-appropriate movie. This is probably the most important rule of all –- right up there with not kicking the seat in front of you. If you take your four-year-old to a PG-13 action flick just because it's based on a novel you read and loved as a tween, you will be in for an unpleasant afternoon of frightened whimpering, tears and shouts of "Is he going to die?" If...

Frontman for one of the biggest rock groups of all time. Judge on one of the biggest television shows of all time. Has a new memoir out about the entire crazy ride. And now "American Idol's" Steven Tyler can add Emmy nominee to the list.
The Daytime Emmy Award nominations were announced Wednesday (May 11) and after weeding through all the soap operas and talk shows, we were surprised and delighted to discover that Mr. Tyler is nominated for Outstanding Performer in an Animated Program for his work as the Mad Hatter on Nickelodeon's "The Wonder Pets!"
Tyler isn't a regular on "Wonder Pets," but he joined forces last fall with Idina Menzel (Queen of Hearts) and Ziggy Marley (Cheshire Cat) in an "Alice in Wonderland"-themed episode for the Emmy-winning preschool series that follows the adventures of three singing classroom pets who work together to save animals in distress.

Zooey Deschanel is not an amazing actress, she is also a musician, singer, songwriter and she's half of the awesome band, She & Him. The band performed three songs for the upcoming Winnie the Pooh film, including her own take on the classic “Winnie the Pooh” theme song, “A Very Important Thing to Do” and the original end-credit song “So Long,” which was written by Deschanel and performed with fellow bandmate M. Ward.
Take a listen to "So Long" below and share your thoughts!
Synopsis:
Walt Disney Animation Studios returns to the Hundred Acre Wood with “Winnie the Pooh,” the first big-screen Pooh adventure from Disney animation in more than 35 years. With the timeless charm, wit and whimsy of the original featurettes, this all-new movie reunites audiences with the philosophical “bear of very little brain” and friends Tigger, Rabbit, Piglet, Owl, Kanga, Roo—and last, but certainly not least, Eeyore, who has lost his tail.

The Annie Awards, Animation's Highest Honor, went all the way for DreamWorks Animation's "How to Train Your Dragon!" The fun, animated film, originally received 15 nominations and won 10 trophies including Best Animated Feature.
Given by the International Animated Film Society, the 38th annual Annie Awards was not without controversy. Apparently, Disney and Pixar announced they would no longer participate in the annual awards because of their concerns over how the event is judged.
The studios claimed the Annie Awards have always been slighted towards DreamWorks Animation. And this year, both DreamWorks film ("How to Train Your Dragon") and TV ("Kung Fu Panda Holiday") topped the Annie Awards.
"Dragon," featuring the voices of Jay Baruchel, Gerard Butler, America Ferrara, Jonah Hill, and Craig Ferguson, beat Annie contenders such as Universal's "Despicable Me," Disney's "Tangled," Sony Pictures Classics' "The Illusionist," and Pixar's "Toy Story 3" for best animated feature. With awards season is underway comes the 38th Annual Annie Award nominations, which recognize the year’s best work in animation. Since the creation of the animation-specific Oscar category in 2001, the Annies have predicted the Academy Award winner every year except 2006 and 2008.
Unfortunately, the award has been tainted by controversy after CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg reportedly bought each DreamWorks Animation employee a membership in the International Animated Film Society, Asifa-Hollywood, skewing the voting in the studio’s favor. This likely resulted in a surprise sweep by DreamWorks Animations’ Kung Fu Panda at the Annies in 2008-2009 over Pixar’s eventual Oscar winner, Wall-e.
Disney Studios has since pulled its official support of the event and submissions for the awards, though individual animators are able to submit their films themselves. As a result, the rules were changed for individual achievement categories, but Disney sought a neutral committee of animators from every studio to propose and approve guidelines.

The International Animated Film Society, Asifa-Hollywood, announced nominations today for the 38th Annual Annie Awards™ recognizing the year’s best in the field of animation including best animated feature, television production, commercials, short subjects, video games and outstanding individual achievements.
Two years ago, Kung-Fu Panda swept the awards over Wall-e pushing Disney and Pixar to withdraw from the organization and making everyone else wonder if there is any point in caring anymore about the ceremony. Toy Story 3 and Tangled did get Best Picture nominations, but DreamWorks (who pretty much run the show) lead the nominees.
According to /film, Disney’s reason for withdrawing was rooted in the organization’s very loose membership requirements and the fact that DreamWorks seemed actively working to stack the deck in the studio’s favour. Disney-Pixar president Ed Catmull said earlier this year,
“After more than a year of discussions with the Asifa board,...

The full list of nominations for the 38th Annie Awards were announced today with Dreamworks’s How to Train your Dragon gathering up the majority of nominations including Best Feature, Animation, Character Design and Voice Work for Gerard Butler and Jay Baruchel, as well as Directing nominations for Chris Sanders and Dean DeBlois.
Pixar’s Up took home the Best Animated Feature earlier this year at the 2009 awards and when the awards are announced next February Lee Unkrich and his team are up from a number of awards, along with Disney’s Tangled, but the recent decision of Disney to withdraw support for the awards may go some way to explaining the relatively few number of nods.
It has been a great year for animation as the films on the list below attest, and it’s nice to see Sylvain Chomet’s enchanting film The Illusionist scoring a point against the domination of CG here.

DreamWorks Animation's "How to Train Your Dragon" flew high above competition by nabbing 15 nominations for the 38th annual Annie Awards given by the International Animated Film Society, Asifa-Hollywood. ("How to Train Your Dragon" movie review)
"Dragon," featuring the voices of Jay Baruchel, Gerard Butler, America Ferrara, Jonah Hill, and Craig Ferguson, will duke it out with Universal's "Despicable Me," Disney's "Tangled," Sony Pictures Classics' "The Illusionist," and Pixar's "Toy Story 3" for best animated feature. ("How to Train Your Dragon" interviews)
But there's controversy in the Annie Awards world. The Hollywood Reporter is saying that "Disney and Pixar announced they would no longer participate in the annual awards because of their concerns over how the event is judged."
Apparently, Disney was complaining that the Annie Awards has favored DreamWorks in recent years such as when "Kung Fu Panda" won 10 trophies and beat Pixar's "Wall-e" in 2008.

Disney has tough competition in the form of itself this year, as “Tangled” and “Toy Story 3″ will compete against one another, along with a host of other fantastic animated films, at the 38th Annual Annie Awards.
The Annie Awards will be a battleground for the upcoming Oscar animation awards. This year, only three animated films will be nominated. Why? Because the rules that govern the Oscars are laughably outmoded. But that’s beside the point.
Fact is, the Annie Awards deserve attention amongst the many other awards shows because so many great animated films were released in 2010, arguably more than traditional films. “Tangled,” “Toy Story 3,” “How to Train Your Dragon,” “Despicable Me” and “The Illusionist” will jostle for the Best Animated Feature award.
Here’s a list of all the nominees.

The International Animated Film Society Asifa-Hollywood has announced the nominees for the 38th Annual Annie Awards, and the DreamWorks feature How to Train Your Dragon leads the pack with more than ten nods. But there's a caveat; that and the full list of nominations after the break. This will be the first Annie Awards after Disney and Pixar withdrew from the organization [1] that organizes the awards. Toy Story 3 and Tangled did get Best Picture nominations, and Lee Unkrich was nominated Best Director. But in the feature deaprtment this is DreamWorks' show, with a few nods toward the Warner Bros. film Legend of the Guardians and a scant few other features such as The Illusionist. Disney's reason for withdrawing was rooted in the organization's very loose membership requirements (read: almost non-existent requirements, until recently) and the fact that DreamWorks seemed actively working to stack the deck in the studio's favor.

For the first time in over 35 years Winnie the Pooh is returning to the theaters with a whole new adventure in The Hundred Acre Wood. With the charm, wit and whimsy of the original featurettes, this all-new movie reunites audiences with the philosophical “bear of very little brain” and friends Tigger, Rabbit, Piglet, Kanga, Roo-and last, but certainly not least, Eeyore, who has lost his tail. “Well a tail is either there or it isn’t there,” said Pooh. “And yours isn’t… there.” Owl sends the whole gang on a wild quest to save Christopher Robin from an imaginary culprit. It turns out to be a very busy day for a bear who simply set out to find some hunny. Last year, John Lassetter, told us that writers took the story from five never filmed short stories from A.A. Milne.

New York – Jerry Bock, who composed the music to some of the most memorable shows in Broadway history, including the melodies for "Fiorello!" and "Fiddler on the Roof," has died. He was 81.Richard M. Ticktin, Bock's attorney and family friend, said the composer died Wednesday morning at Northern Westchester Hospital in Mount Kisco, N.Y., of heart failure.Together with lyricist Sheldon Harnick, Bock wrote the powerful score to "Fiddler on the Roof," one of the most successful productions in the history of the American musical theater, having an initial run of eight years. It earned the two men Tony Awards in 1965."He was wonderful to work with," said Harnick, who collaborated with Bock for 13 years. "I think in all of the years that we worked together, I only remember one or two arguments — and those were at the beginning of the collaboration when we were still feeling each other out.
