A potential tragedy almost occurred when actor Dustin Nguyen was handed a loaded gun by the prop master for a scene. Despite being assured the gun was loaded with blanks, Nguyen insisted on testing the gun beforehand, shooting at a tree and breaking a branch.
Was, at the time of release, the most expensive Vietnamese film ever made, with a budget of around 26 billion Vietnamese Dong, equivalent to about 1.6 million USD, double what it was initially expected to cost. The film also became the biggest success in the history of Vietnamese cinema, with a box-office gross of about 10 billion VND, but was unable to recoup its investment, eventually leading producer Chanh Tin Nguyen to go bankrupt and lose his house. This was explained in part by the prevalence of movie piracy in Vietnam.
About 300 costumes were created for the film.
Star/co-writer/action director/producer Johnny Tri Nguyen began writing the script while filming The Protector (2005).
Lead actress Veronica Ngo spent the two months before filming training in martial arts six hours daily under the direction of star/action director Johnny Tri Nguyen.
