Imagine this scenario, 2 AM, lying in bed, flipping through channels, and you decide to watch Jeremy's Family Reunion. I read the info; its sounds like it may be a decent movie. It looked low-budget, so I watched it hoping for a good laugh. Although there were some funny moments, overall it was far from funny.
It seemed to play a lot on stereotypes and the acting by most of the characters was horrid. The main character was annoying and very disgusting. And, above all else, the storyline needs a savior! I wouldn't recommend this film to anyone--unless you're bored and you have 1.5 hours to spare.

I think that people are over thinking this movie. It's a low budget film and bad low budget films have been made for years. What bothers me are when films with big budgets and major distribution sucks just as much or worst. Jeremy's Family Reunion was acted by a group of people that were acting for the very first time, now if you have to blame anyone, blame the director for not getting the best out of them and not getting the best shots, and the editor for really doing a very bad job. I think that this film could have been a lot better if those two would have done a better job. The idea was one that is common in the African American community families getting together for a reunion, wedding, graduation or funeral and all hell breaks out for one reason are another. This movie needed a bit more depth, but it could work. Maybe with better actors and a better director, but it could work. I think what some film students should do as a project is take movies like these and see how they can make them better. All in all I give it a C-
As a retiree, I fill a lot of time watching movies. I try to support the low budget films but after seeing this movie, I am too through with low budgets. This is the fourth film I had to eject at a certain point, never to view it again. I went to get a cherry lime soda and there was this green particle on the outer cup. I got really paranoid and insisted it be fixed again. It was only a small piece of lime but after partially viewing these unbelievable waste of tapes, I was taking no chance. It seems people who make these films are too obsessed with nose picking, passing gas, and filthy body waste. In the future, if someone vouches for certain low budget films, I will buy it, but never never, never will I choose one because it seems to be interesting. It is not necessary for the disgusting scenes. You turn me OFF!
This is one of those silly movies that really don't have much substance or perhaps interest to the average viewer unless they have experienced certain elements they have seen. Ms. Dupree made a good "Grandma Pearl", and is reminiscent of grandmothers like that back in the day, singing Gospel and drinking at the same time. Then the Vietnam Vet\Flashlight Cop\Crazy man everyone in the "hood" has run into. Then there is Cousin Mike on crack, Aunt Gladys the hypocrite, Cousin Pam starting fights, Cousin Blaze rippin everyone off, and the list goes on and on. I doubt that we will see anything of substance out of these two, but the comedic license is palpable to say the least. I'm still laughing.
I watched this movie on a limb, it's totally low budget, there is some funny parts, but otherwise it's not that funny. What I did notice in the film, that there wasn't any music playing during the partying scenes, the family is yelling & screaming "Go Head!" and dancing around, but there's no music. I think what happened is that the director couldn't get rights to certain songs at the last moment and wasn't allowed to use the music in the movie. They could of substituted it with some other less known music, The movie as a whole is 85% not funny, the movie tried to be funny in parts and some of the jokes landed and I laughed, but a lot of them fell flat If you are a fan of African-American comedies then stay away from this one and watch a real comedy.
