    Bright Star is based on a screenplay by New Zealand film-maker Jane Campion, who also directed the movie. The film is based on the last three years of the life of English Romance poet John Keats [1795-1821], who died of tuberculosis at the early age of 25.



    Yes. "Bright star, would I were steadfast as thou art" is the first line of a Keats sonnet written in 1819 and first published in The Plymouth and Devonport Weekly Journal in 1838. A copy of the sonnet can be read here.
