The members of the Angel Brigade are named after food:
- Milfeuille is named after the French pastry mille-feuille
- Ranpha's last name "Franboise" is the French word for "raspberry"
- Mint Blancmanche combines the flavour of "mint" with the dessert "blancmange"
- Vanilla is self-explanatory
- and Forte Stollen's last name "stollen" refers to a German pastry (however her first name "forte" is an Italian word meaning "loud" used in musical compositions).
The Transbaal Empire was named after the Transvaal, the section of land north of the Vaal River in South Africa. The word "Transvaal" has also been used in South African administrative titles, which is probably where the name came from.
The computer Normad was inspired by the Star Trek (1966) episode "The Changeling", which featured an artificial computer named Nomad who talked in a high-pitched voice.
