Ace Ventura Jr: Pet Detective will be released directly-to-DVD on March 3rd, 2009.
Originally it was supposed to be theatrically released in September 2008, but it was later announced that the film will be distributed on DVD.
No, the main reason being that Jim Carrey hates reprising the same role as he thinks if he does it again it is like imitating himself. This has been a growing trend since Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls.
Another reason could be that the Production Companies had not offered Jim the role as this happened with previous Jim Carrey-less sequels like Son of The Mask and a Dumb and Dumber prequel; Dumb and Dumberer.
