Trevor Wall, director of the series, wanted to make an animated adaptation of the literary work The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka; Although Nickelodeon and Mike Young Productions executives made certain changes to the story by turning the main character into a girl who instead of becoming a bug, was raised by them.
