After the successful reprise of Mandacaru, originally displayed in Manchete, the Band invested in a soap opera season relying on the same devices production of deceased Headline: nudity, violence and exquisite production time. However, the story did not achieve the expected success.
The Portuguese broadcaster RTP became a partner of the Band in this endeavor. Besides the presence of actors and funding of the recordings, the RTP has delegated to the actor and director Virgílio Castelo, who played the protagonist Father Dinis, the co-direction of the work.
First novel of actress Anna Sophia Folch, 21 years. Before, she had participated in the film The Greatest Love of All and did theater since 14 years.
The first title designed for the novel was "Doomed Love" after "Amores Prohibited", until the final "Passions Prohibited".
The soap opera portrays the Brazilian society in the years before the arrival of the Portuguese royal family to Brazil in 1808. In parallel, the Portuguese showed resistance to the invasion of the troops of Napoleon Bonaparte. Never, until then a soap opera had portrayed this time so important to Brazilian history.
