2008-2012 was a great yet frustrating era to be a fan of Marvel cartoons. That brief period of time saw the premiere of some of the very best television that's ever adapted Marvel Comics: "The Spectacular Spider-Man," "Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes," and "Wolverine and the X-Men." I both blame and cherish these shows for making me a true Marvel Comics fan.

Yet, all these truly marvelous shows concluded prematurely for infuriating bureaucratic reasons. "Spectacular Spider-Man" ended when Sony ceded some Spider-Man television rights back to Marvel. Meanwhile, "Earth's Mightiest Heroes" was canned to make way for the far inferior (and Marvel Cinematic Universe-synergistic) "Avengers Assemble." Lastly, "Wolverine and the X-Men" never made it to season 2 because the show's financing fell apart.

According to recent rumors, Sadie Sink is up for the role of Jean Grey in the Marvel Cinematic Universe's X-Men reboot. This potential casting has garnered support from Stranger Things co-star Joseph Quinn, who named another actor from the series to play the McU's new incarnation of Wolverine.

While no such rumors have been confirmed, Sink's possible casting as Jean Grey has garnered a lot of attention on social media. At Megacon Orlando, Eddie Munson actor Joseph Quinn commented on the rumors when asked about them during a panel. He said that Sink would be "brilliant" as Jean Grey before going on to suggest that the reported X-Men reboot could also cast Jonathan Byers actor Charlie Heaton as the next Logan.

The upcoming take on Marvel's First Family had a series of Easter eggs in the first teasers.

Many of you will no doubt recall the near-endless list of actors we saw suggested for Marvel's First Family in The Fantastic Four: First Steps. An official announcement was finally made but the rumours...well, they became a little exhausting. 

Marvel Studios' X-Men reboot is finally somewhere on the horizon and could be released in theaters as soon as 2027. It's incredibly important to get that franchise right after the damage done by Fox in those final few years and casting the best people possible will be essential. 

We fully trust in Sarah Finn, of course, and expect to be suitably impressed. In the meantime, quite a few names are already doing the rounds online and we figured it would be a good time to bring you up to speed with everyone rumoured to be in the running.

For me, one of the most surprising returns to X-Men lore is one of the most hated characters in recent memory. This is a character that I never thought Marvel would bring back, but I'm glad they are, as her powers make her the perfect response to almost every situation. While some fans may not be happy about it, it seems that Lifeguard is returning to front and center in the X-Men side of the Marvel Universe.

After keeping readers in suspense, Marvel's new Ultimate Universe has finally confirmed the debut of a brand new version of Cyclops, as Natsu Tsukishima officially unleashes her powers for the very first time.The historic moment is delivered in Ultimate X-Men #8 by Peach Momoko, featuring a pivotal scene with Natsu, allowing her to finally use her powers and prove beyond a shadow of a doubt who shes supposed to represent.

In this brief but essential scene, Natsu and Mori are accosted by a group of their peers, making fun of the pair for their involvement in the Children Of The Atom cult. The bullying quickly takes a dark turn, as they begin to imply that Natsu is a murderer before one of them prepares to throw a can at her. However, a red beam of energy shoots out of Natsus left eye, destroying the can while the teens call her a freak and a murderer.

As always, things are going from bad to worse for the X-Men. Thanks to the Orchis terrorist group (and likely Marvel Comics editorial pressure), the mutant homeland of Krakoa is no more and mutants are displaced people scattered across the globe. One faction, led by Cyclops and Magneto, has set up a refugee colony in Alaska; residents include Beast, Psylocke, Juggernaut, Magik, Temper, and Quentin Quire. Together, these mutants make up the cast of "X-Men" by Jed MacKay and Ryan Stegman.

While Stegman's art carries on from '90s X-Men superstar artist Jim Lee, MacKay is pulling from Grant Morrison's "New X-Men." The driving arc of "X-Men," so far, is Cyclops and co. discovering several newly "activated" mutants who are getting powers into adulthood, well past when they should — because their X-Genes are unnatural. Meaning, someone is turning humans into mutants.

Warning: Contains spoilers for Conquest 2099 #2!!

Cyclops and Wolverine have one of the most complex relationships in X-Men history, as they've gone from rivals to friends and back again. They're often at odds, even when they have the same goals, and that relationship carries over in some capacity even in far futures and alternate timelines. However, the year 2099 offers one interesting twist - Cyclops is able to force Wolverine to stand down with a single threat.

In Conquest 2099 #2 written by Steve Orlando, with art by Ibraim Robertson and Jos Luis Soares Pinto Wolverine, acting as Nova, attempts to force information about the Araneon people out of Spider-Woman, leading them to fight. Despite the ferocity of his attack, he isn't able to take Spider-Woman down, much less get the intel he's after. Yet it is Cyclops 2099 who gets Logan to yield, not his target.

I'm very excited about the prospect of 20th Century Fox's X-Men team returning in the MCU, as it means an iconic Summers family moment could finally be depicted in live-action after 24 years. Marvel Studios folded Fox's X-Men franchise and the heroes it contains into the McU's main continuity in 2024's Deadpool & Wolverine, dubbing this alternate reality Earth-10005. I loved that this canonized many of my favorite mutant heroes, while also creating the opportunity for some of them to be revisited in the McU's future.

While some of the actors from Fox's X-Men franchise have already reprised their roles in the MCU, I'm still waiting for the likes of James Marsden, Famke Janssen, Halle Berry, Josh Brolin and Ian McKellen to return to their legendary roles. Three of these names, in particular, fill me with hope that one of the most shocking moments from Marvel Comics' history could finally be seen in live-action.

Alf comic series extended the TV show's humor to new heights, parroting X-Men lore with creative insight and oversaturated jokes. Alf #22 and #44 showcase wild flights of fantasy in reimagining iconic X-Men characters in a childish, yet endearing way.

Alf's parodies of the X-Men are as over-the-top as the sitcom ever got; to this day, they remain as absurdly hilarious as they were at the time of their release. In Uncanny Avengers #3, the "Trial of Cyclops" is set in motion, with Orchis leaders planning to use it as a way to continue turning public opinion against mutants. Orchis, an anti-mutant organization, has emerged as the most significant threat to mutants in decades; in addition to wiping out a large portion of the mutant population, they have poisoned humanity's opinion of mutantkind, turning back the clock on human-mutant relations. Cyclops being put on trial, and potentially facing death, could truly be what defines the end of the Krakoan era for the X-Men franchise.

The Juggernaut, despite his incredible strength, has been defeated by surprising heroes like Professor Xavier, Cyclops, Banshee, and Lost. These heroes used their unique abilities, whether it be telepathy, strategic thinking, sonic blasts, or reality manipulation, to overcome the seemingly unstoppable villain. While the Juggernaut may be a formidable foe, he is not invincible and can be defeated through clever tactics and the utilization of mutant powers.

One of the first enemies of the X-Men, the Unstoppable Juggernaut, has a 60-year history of being defeated by surprising heroes. The announcement comes shortly after it was revealed that an X-Men '97 Pop! figure based on the villainous Goblin Queen would be made available exclusively at the upcoming New York Comic Con. With X-Men '97 set to premiere before the end of 2023, merchandise based on the animated revival of X-Men: The Animated Series has slowly been making its way online and in stores.

“Double Trouble”

Crime stories about twins are usually compelling, despite the sameness (no pun intended) about them. Among the Living, a 1941 potboiler from Paramount, is a short (only 69 minutes!) thriller that, with a few cuts, might have been an episode of an Alfred Hitchcock Presents or similar anthology television program. It moves quickly, holds interest, and contains a reasonably dynamic performance from Albert Dekker as twins—one of them “normal,” and the other insane.

Dekker had an admirable career in Hollywood for three decades, usually working in supporting roles. He is perhaps best known as the titular character in Dr. Cyclops (1940). Landing a dual starring part in Among the Living was likely a result of his appearance in Cyclops.
