John Cusack, Joan Cusack, Marisa Tomei, Ben Kingsley, and Hilary Duff in War, Inc. (2008)

FAQ

War, Inc.

FAQ

War, Inc. was based on a screenplay written by principal actor John Cusack and American writers Mark Leyner and Jeremy Pikser. The story is partly inspired by Naomi Klein's article "Baghdad Year Zero: Pillaging Iraq in pursuit of a neocon utopia", which was published in the September 2004 issue of The Harper's Magazine.

It is a satirical look at the invasion, occupation, and commercialization of Iraq and Afghanistan by the United States armed forces and by mercenary military subcontractors like Blackwater and Halliburton who profited from the war. Dan Aykroyd's character is a parody of former vice president Dick Cheney.

No. War Inc. is not a direct sequel. Cusack has said that Disney did not want to make a sequel but he tried to incorporate the idea of Grosse Pointe Blank into War Inc. The characters are different, as is the location.

John Cusack wrote the part of Yonica with Hilary Duff in mind. At first she wanted to reject it as it meant having to play another popstar but ultimately gave in as she realized that it is a very different kind of "popstar". Cusack has also praised Duff's acting skills in this movie, calling her "a great actress" and a "revelation every day".
