The six configurations of the box represent its six gifts: Lament ("life"), Lore ("knowledge"), Lauderant ("love"), Liminal ("sensation"), Lazarus ("resurrection") and Leviathan ("power").
The idea of the pin-covered head Cenobite being female isn't as new as some viewers thought. Already in the original novella, The Hellbound Heart, the corresponding Cenobite was said to have a feminine voice, the only clue to a possible gender a human could perceive (making this movie truer to the text) , but even more recently, in the Boom!Studios' Hellraiser comics, written by Clive Barker himself and released through the 2010s, Kirsty Cotton ended up turned into a female version of Pinhead when taking his place as leader of the Cenobites.
