Before they costarred in the 1996 film Evita, Madonna had a major crush on Antonio Banderas — and he had no clue.
The actor, 59, spoke about the pop singer’s crush on him during an interview on Sirius Xm’s The Jess Cagle Show on Friday while promoting his Pedro Almodovar film Pain and Glory.
“A lot of people in America actually became aware of you when Madonna did her Truth or Dare documentary where she spent a great deal of the movie obsessing over you and how you wouldn’t call her back,” Jess Cagle told Banderas.

In recent years Madonna hasn’t been quite the musical tastemaker she was in her ’80s and ’90s heyday, but her 14th album, “Madame X,” which dropped on June 14, might be a late-career return to form for the erstwhile Material Girl. The new album has scored 73 on MetaCritic based on a dozen reviews, which is her best critical mark since “Confessions on a Dance Floor” scored 80 in 2005.
Critics are noting the musical adventurousness of the new collection, which isn’t chasing modern pop relevance as hard as she was in her last two efforts “Mdna” (2012) and “Rebel Heart” (2015). She’s “unapologetically indulging all her whims and quirks,” resulting in “her most natural-feeling, progressive and original record” since the aforementioned “Confessions.” It’s an “uncompromising musical statement.”

As part of the salute to the qualities that keep the town humming, filmmaker/producer Travis Knight, who founded Laika Studios and is finishing up the anticipated “Bumblebee” for Paramount, as well as Variety‘s 10 Assistants to Watch along with the New Leaders will be recognized Oct. 17, at the Jeremy Hotel rooftop in West Hollywood.

Simpson's Film Flops in Texas
Jessica Simpson's new film Blonde Ambition made less than $400 when it opened in eight Texas theatres on Friday . The movie, which also stars fellow Texan Luke Wilson, was saved from the straight-to-DVD tag by film bosses at Nu Image and Millennium Films, who decided to give it a limited Christmas run. The executives were hoping the fact that both Simpson and Wilson are Texas natives would help give the film a boost, and possibly lead to more interest from cinema chains across America. The film will now be released on DVD in January, as expected.

Simpson Movie To Bypass Cinemas?
Actress Jessica Simpson has dismissed reports her latest movie is so bad it won't be released in U.S. cinemas. The 26-year-old's upcoming romantic comedy Blonde Ambition, in which she stars alongside Luke Wilson, is allegedly not as good as studio bosses had hoped. An insider tells website UsMagazine.com, "It is going straight to DVD domestically. It will only come out in theatres internationally. The movie is absolutely horrible. It's just a bomb, mainly because of Jessica's acting." But a spokesperson for Simpson says, "It's definitely a theatrical release." One of the producers behind the project is former Malcolm In The Middle star Justin Berfield, who now lives in the Calabasas, California home that was used in Simpson's hit reality show Newlyweds: Nick And Jessica.
