A Warm, Comforting Home

The material used for this short is old footage of a family. The principal person in that footage is a little girl. Mother and father also show up. Interspersed with the moving images is white text on black background.

The footage is all smiles and happy moments. Some of it filmed in Morocco during the family's stay there. In contrast, the text is somber and revelatory of a family with problematic relations. It is an effective image versus text dichotomy, a clash between the imagery and the knowledge of underlying facts.

For the audience it is a matter of gradually shifting one's interpretation of a voiceless seemingly contented reality presented as movie under the accumulating evidence of a harsher reality revealed through commentary. In this it is a good reminder that images alone can sometimes hide the truth.
