On May 31, 2013, Tim Samaras and Carl Young were killed chasing a tornado. The tornado, in Oklahoma, ended up turning towards them and resulted in their deaths.
On January 23, 2018, former Storm Chasers member, Joel Taylor, was found dead at age 38. His body was found in his cabin on the Royal Caribbean Cruise ship, Harmony of the Seas. The cause of his death was not storm chasing related; instead, it was found that he had overdosed on a fatal mix of drugs.
The episode titled "Dedication", which debuted on November 3, 2010, begins and ends with a dedication to Wichita native Matt Hughes. It was found that he had attempted suicide on May 14, 2010 and died twelve days later at age thirty, in Valley Center, Kansas.
