Edit
The entire cast does their own singing and dancing, with the exception of John C. McGinley, who jump roped during the opening number to cover the fact that he couldn't dance.
In the song "Everything Comes Down to Poo," according to composer Jeff Marx, the lyrics "It may sound gross / You may say shush / But we need to see / What comes out of your tush" were originally "It may sound gross / It may sound crass / But we need to see / What comes out of your ass."
Judy Reyes fractured her pelvis shortly before filming, which is why she sits in a chair for "It's Gonna be a Long Year." For the number "The Truth Comes Out" she is seen walking in front Ms. Miller's bed, which is her, but for the other parts, it is her double. The number "Dominican", was filmed 5 weeks after her injury.
The episode won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Sound Mixing for a Comedy or Drama Series (Half-Hour) and Animation.
Three people from the hit Broadway show "Avenue Q" were involved in making this episode. Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx, the creators and songwriters of Avenue Q wrote the majority of the songs in this episode and Stephanie D'Abruzzo (Patti Miller) originated the roles of Kate Monster, Lucy T. Slut, one of the singing Moving Boxes and the voice of the Suicidal Woman in the Broadway production.

Cameo

Jeff Marx: one of the composers of the songs in this episode, has an uncredited role as the pharmacist in the background during "Gonna Miss You Carla".
