Visual Futurist: The Art & Life of Syd Mead (2006)

Trivia

Visual Futurist: The Art & Life of Syd Mead

Edit
The Director approached Syd Mead via e-mail through his own website about the possibility of doing a documentary on his life and career. It happened to be on one of the days that the site's e-mails were checked, and the Director received an immediately favorable response from Syd Mead's business manager, Roger Servick. The Director and Syd Mead met exactly one week later, and the rest is history.
The film won the Audience Award at Dances With Films 2006 with the highest rating in the festival's 9 year history.
The Director's favorite film is "Blade Runner", but he made a conscious effort not to mention that fact to Syd Mead out of fear that he might be discounted as a novice fan boy, and not be allowed to make the documentary.
In order to be considered for the Documentary, the Director was asked to submit a previous film for viewing, the Director submitted his previous and only Documentary, "Skinhead".
The film features extended driving sequences of Syd Mead in his Mercedes 300SL Gull Wing which he subsequently sold.
