Paramount Plus has ordered Paramount Television Studios’ “Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies” to series, Variety has confirmed.

The “Grease” prequel takes place four years before Sandy and Danny’s relationship throws Rydell High into a tailspin. Before rock ‘n’ roll ruled and before the T-Birds were the coolest guys in school, four fed-up, outcast girls dare to have fun on their own terms and spark a moral panic that will change Rydell High forever. The hour-long musical comedy will highlight the rise of the original four Pink Ladies— Rizzo, Jan, Marty and Frenchy— long before they had to whip into shape the clean-cut new girl from Australia.

The 10-episode series is written and executive produced by creator and “Atypical” and “Transparent” alum Annabel Oakes. Marty Bowen and Erik Feig will also executive produce for Temple Hill and Picturestart, respectively. Both are also working with Paramount Pictures on the “Grease” prequel movie “Summer Lovin.

It seems like we truly can never have too much of a good thing: several months after the Grease prequel film Summer Loving was announced, HBO Max has handed out a straight-to-series order for a spinoff musical of the classic film titled Grease: Rydell High. That's right, folks - we're heading back to the hallowed halls of Rydell High, the high school at the center of all the action.

While Summer Loving will recount the terribly romantic Summer affair between John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John's characters, Danny Zuko and Sandy Olsson, Rydell High will introduce viewers to a whole host of new faces. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the series will reimagine the original movie while still being set in the '50s and feature big musical numbers from the era. It'll explore the usual topics of high-school dramas, including the horrors of puberty and peer pressures of high school.

On Tuesday, Paramount Pictures released the trailer for its (mostly) live-action movie adaptation of the Sega video game franchise. In the film, Carrey plays the mustachioed baddie opposite the Ben Schwartz-voiced spiny mammal and his ally cop, played by James Marsden.
