To be honest, irrespective of the Dharma Production controversy, Gunjan Saxena deserves to be appreciated because of the direction and efficient acting as well.
Bollywood biopics have the tendency to turn into overheated fiction, but this doesn't. Pankaj Tripathi, Vineet Kumar were very good, but Jhanvi could have done much better being as the lead with the expressions and passion.
Gunjan Saxena - The Kargil Girl spares us the spectacle of ungainly chest-thumping. What it gives is a good old touching tale of a girl who dared to break free from her cage and fly away and a father who supported her dream to come true.
My Rating : 3.5/5

Jahnvi's innocence and vulnerability shows when acting and the character of Gunjan Saxena is beautifully portrayed by her - the emotional scenes are a treat to watch and make it worthwhile.
I sincerely think it's a well-executed movie - very simple and doesn't try to embellish too much - no unnecessary scenes or dialogues - only that which is essential and adds to the beauty of a biopic's purpose which is to highlight the lesser-known heroes that never get the limelight.
Loved it, a double feature to Uri perhaps?

Keep aside nepotism and keep away from all negative reviews here. Just watch this movie if you want a good movie to watch. The actors in the movie have given their sincere performances. Jhanvi will definitely going to improve as an actor in the years to come.

This movie is loved by my all family members... everyone is enjoyed the every single bit of the movie...
Tone, Script & Story: The story is a nice ride revolving around life of a girl who ends up being an Indian Air Force personnel. In turn she also becomes, the only women who serves in Kargil war.
As a movie it is well-made. I stumbled on script where I wanted discipline and a fact proven where a large number of defense personnel comes from families with same back ground. It's true that Gunjans father and brother supported such fact but she differently aspired to be pilot and ended up in IAF. But then the script creates masala.
I don't like when while watching the movie I notice pit falls as clearly I totally want to enjoy it. Here as I stumbled on couple of points I mentioned the end took me. It ended on terms the kind I like.
Final Verdict: Even if we remove the hate for the movie for being product of Nepotism. It still ends on average note.

Not watching this would be a better tribute to the Kargil hero ,Gunjan saxsena.

This film is going to receive a lot of hate especially towards the lead but I'm going to try to keep my opinions as honest as possible.
Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl is the story of Gunjan Saxena, a woman who dreams of being a pilot and ends up being the first female IAF officer to fly in a combat zone during the Kargil War.
I wasn't actually that interested in this film but after watching it, it turned out to be better than I thought. For his debut, Sharan Sharma clearly cared about this film and tried his hardest to get this story to the audience. The film is certainly not 100% accurate but I was still invested in what was going on. The editing was pretty good. There isn't a moment where I thought the film's pacing was getting slower. The script by Sharan Sharma and Nikhil Mehrotra is decent. I do think the movie's message about sexism and masculinity did get quite heavy handed whereas I would have preferred it to be more subtle and there were some caricaturish moments but overall the film is spreading a message that can empower women to follow their dreams and not give up.
The main complaint towards this film is Janhvi Kapoor but in all honesty, I don't think she was as bad as people are saying. There is definitely room for improvement especially during the more emotionally demanding scenes but apart from that Kapoor did try. With more experience, I think she could get better in the future. What I really liked was the father-daughter relationship and it's largely due to Pankaj Tripathi's excellent performance. Once again he's shown us how capable of an actor he is. Vineet Kumar Singh and Manav Vij were really good as the IAF officers and Angad Bedi did a good job.
Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl isn't a bad film by any means. I wish it was more innovative since its simplicity doesn't make it particularly stand out from other biopics but it is an earnest attempt from Sharan Sharma.

Pathetic acting by janhavi Kapoor, story and concept was good but casting janhavi as gunjan saxena was big mistake, pankaj Kapoor acting somehow tries to sail the ship however at the end ship sank at bottom due to obvious reason

It's hard to portray a character in Biopic films. Jahnvi kapoor is too gud in her role. Her growth is clearly seen as a performer. Pankaj Tripathi is backbone of the film. The movie is all about Ambitions ,dreams mixed with Patriotism , Relationships ,Family drama,Women empowerment. Father and daughter relationship is beautifully written. Songs are catchy. War sequences in Last 30 min is well-shot. Watch it.
Only one word total waste of time & money.
Worst screenplay, worst direction and super worst acting by Janvi.
Don't watch it if you want to save your money & time.

Story line this movie was Soo great.it start with a promise but didn't catch up in the ending. When it started I was really enjoying but poor picturization damaged it.Fighting scenes was too short and lack of any real drama or action. It was feel like anybody can do it.ya u can say it's a biopic so it shows what just happened but u have to remember it's a movie ...so you have add a bit of cheese in it.
Acting of monoj tripathi was great as usual .Janvi was avarage in my opinion, should be more stronger in characterization.
This film has not been made to tell the story of Gunjan Saxena. It's the commom formula since the last few years. When they run out of copying Hollywood,Korean,Spanish,Tamil etc. films, they pick a "Nationalism" topic to make people fool in the name of patriotism & use its PR agencies to manipulate brainless audience more. And then loads of CASH!
So, if you are really interested to pay tribute to Gunjan Saxena ma'am, then watch documentary or read article about her to give her proper respect. Don't give your money to these scums who have no respect for her. If they actually had respect for Gunjan ma'am, then they would cast an actor, not a straight face nepokid.
& 2 stars for the 2 words of the tittle Gunjan Saxena.

I enjoyed Gunjan Saxena. This is different than most biopics in Bollywood. It doesn't stay for unwanted scenes and stays on track for its runtime. So we don't get bored watching this. A lot of people are degrade the movie amid nepotism debate. I personally don't think that's fair to those who worked hard for making this movie. The producer maybe an a**hole, but that doesn't make this movie bad. Jhanvi Kapoor's casting is maybe through favouritism, but she gave a powerful and clean performance as Gunjan Saxena. We won't know if someone would be better than her. But she did a good job. Another debate is going on about the factual errors about this movie. But this biopic is approved by Gunjan Saxena herself and she is the only inspiration of this story. I don't think she would lie about something like this. We never know. Overall, Gunjan Saxena is a good movie and I recommend every Indians to watch this without other thoughts and enjoy it.
Everything in this movie is unprepared, half baked and too much predictable.
Acting of nepo kid is pathetic.
Only Pankaj Tripathi can't save the film.
One of the worst movie.
Baseless assertions in the storyline . Factually incorrect . Misleading the viewers regarding the Indian Air Force . Pankaj Tripathi was the only reason I watched the whole film. Truly disappointed
