Vampires and vampirism have been used as metaphors for many things over the years, one of which is drug addiction. Films as diverse as Ganja and Hess, Abel Ferrara’s The Addiction, Daybreakers, and Bliss have made that connection for various purposes. Now writer/director Andrew Bell gives us his addition to the genre, Bleeding, which made its North American Premiere at Dances With Films.

In mid-October, “Fauda” producer Liat Benasuly fired off an email to a group of nearly 100 people who had recently converged at former Paramount chief Sherry Lansing’s Los Angeles home. Attendees included “The Big Bang Theory” star Mayim Bialik and singer Montana Tucker, and the topic at hand was one rarely discussed outside of similar informal gatherings — that Israeli content creators are increasingly becoming pariahs in the global marketplace. As a result, the next hit series like “Fauda,” “Homeland” or “Euphoria” could die on the vine. In the email, Benasuly issued a dire warning and solicited donations for a newly formed 501(c)(3) dubbed Friends of Israeli Film & TV Producers Association.
“As you may know, a significant number of our investors and partners have paused their collaborations with Israeli storytellers and producers since October 7th,” she wrote. “Most projects in our industry now face a funding gap of approximately 20-30%. This...

The world of DC is making a comeback with shows like The Penguin, a spinoff of the 2022 film The Batman that centers the iconic villain, played here by Colin Farrell. And this show did not disappoint.
We get a look at the rise of Ozwald Cobb, who ends the show as the crime kingpin known as the Penguin. It isn’t easy taking over the gangs of Gotham City. Oz goes through some difficult and dangerous moments as he gets himself in and out of close shaves. It’s been a fun ride seeing him get out of sticky situations, especially with chrismatic rivals like Sofia Falcone (Cristin Milioti) pushing back on him.
Now that the show is over it’s time to rank the eight episodes of The Penguin from worst to best.

Oz and Sofia’s power struggle rages on, forcing Oz to think outside the box. Here’s our The Penguin episode 6 review.
“Who’s got the power?” Oz asks at the beginning of the latest episode of The Penguin. Indeed, Gotham is in flux with no one gang in charge of the streets. It’s anyone’s game, you could say. Inevitably, it’ll either be Oz or Sofia Gigante (Cristin Milioti) who will end up ruling the streets, but it’s a lot of fun watching the two sides fight for control.
At the end of last week’s episode, Sofia, having adopted her mother’s maiden name, joins forces with the Marones in order to bury Oz’s hopes of ruling Gotham’s underworld. Episode 6 shows that Oz has no plans of surrendering and finds him making quite the power move by the end.
Let’s back up a little,...

The Penguin and DC fans, what did you think of the premiere episode? I certainly liked it and I'm really impressed with what the show has to offer so far! We saw Colin Farrell reprise his role as Oz Cobb/Penguin, and the first episode really delivered when it comes to the storyline and acting. Hopefully, The Batman spin-off series stays like this the rest of the season.
The first episode of the miniseries came out Thursday, Sept. 19, 2024. And so, you might be expecting a new episode tonight. Well, that's actually not the case as HBO has switched release days for the show, starting with The Penguin episode 2. Going forward, installments will come out on a new day instead of Thursdays.

You'll have to wait just a few more days until Sunday, Sept. 29, 2024 for episode 2, "Inside Man" on HBO and Max at 9 p.m. Et. Going forward, new...

Israeli novelist and director Shemi Zarhin is set to screen his latest movie, Bliss (Hemda) at the Toronto Film Festival with virtually all the certainties in his life and work scrambled by the current war in Gaza that followed the Oct. 7, 2023 attacks on southern Israel.
“I can’t explain my people. I can explain nothing,” Zarhin told The Hollywood Reporter on Tuesday about the impossibility of unpacking the conflict between Israelis and Palestinians in his own films and the wider Israeli cinema.
Hardly a critique of Israeli’s polarized society, Zarhin wrote and shot Bliss (Hemda) before the Israeli-Gaza war broke out late last year with devastating destruction in the region, and it’s not an overtly political film as it centers on an older couple, Sassi and Efi, played by Sasson Gabay and Assi Levy.

Now The Hollywood Reporter has broken the news that she’s set to add another acting credit to her filmography, as she’ll be starring in the sci-fi thriller Mem – and with this movie, she’ll also be earning her first writing credit, as she’s currently writing the screenplay.

Deadline has just unveiled that the Toronto International Film Festival has added twenty more titles to their schedule, which brings their lineup of official selections to a total of 278 films. One of the bigger titles to be added is Jason Reitman’s Saturday Night, which depicts the evening of October 11, 1975, when “a ferocious troupe of young comedians and writers changed television forever. It is the true story of what happened behind the scenes that night in the moments leading up to the first broadcast of NBC’s Saturday Night Live.”

Gracie Otto’s documentary about her father – the legendary actor Barry Otto – blooms into a melancholy portrait of artistry and its burdens
All documentaries celebrating artistic geniuses face the challenge of how to recognise their talent without coming across as pure puffery. The dynamic is different in the rare event that the film-maker is personally related to the subject, as is the case in Revealed: Otto by Otto – a portrait of the great Australian actor Barry Otto directed by his daughter Gracie. She flips a potential downside – being so close to the person documented – into a virtue by crafting an emotionally rich film that truly could not have been made by anybody else. It is filled, like Otto’s performances, with light and shade.
Otto by Otto (which premiered at this year’s Sydney film festival and arrives on Stan on 16 June) begins unassumingly, with grainy home videos and footage...

Polish composer Jan A.P. Kaczmarek, who won a 2004 Oscar for “Finding Neverland,” died Tuesday in Krakow, the Polish Music Foundation announced. He was 71 and had suffered from Multiple System Atrophy (Msa) in recent years.
Also among Kaczmarek’s 50-plus film and television scores, mostly from the 1990s and 2000s, were “Unfaithful,” “Bliss,” “Aimee and Jaguar,” “The Visitor” and “Get Low.” He also scored the lavish four-part French-Italian miniseries of “War and Peace” in 2007.
Kaczmarek had one of the most unusual backgrounds of any film composer of his time. Born in Konin in 1953, he was educated as a lawyer. But he abandoned a planned career as a diplomat to compose music for an experimental theater company, headed by avant-garde theater director Jerzy Grotowski, in Poznan during the 1970s.

He formed his own ensemble, the Orchestra of the Eighth Day, which toured Europe in the late 1970s and early 1980s, releasing an LP,...

Heavy noise-makers Full of Hell have announced a new album titled Coagulated Bliss, set to arrive April 26th via Closed Casket Activities. In advance of its release, the band has unleashed the ferocious single “Doors to Mental Agony.”
The album announcement follows the news earlier this year that Full of Hell will support Dying Fetus on a spring North American tour. Tickets for that outing are available here.
Full of Hell wrote Coagulated Bliss shortly after collaborating with Nothing on the joint album When No Birds Sang, which landed at No. 4 on Heavy Consequence‘s list of the 30 Best Metal & Hard Rock Albums of 2023.
“That was a good experience of learning how to find what actually services a song,” stated guitarist Spencer Hazard of the Nothing collab, with singer Dylan Walker adding that working with The Body on an earlier joint release helped him “recognize that there was value in pop music.

‘The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar’ Trailer: Roald Dahl Short Is Wes Anderson at His Most Inventive
Wes Anderson‘s “The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar” is the “Asteroid City” and “Moonrise Kingdom” director at his most visually inventive — and most fetishistic toward the pleasures of devices like dioramas, rear-screen projection, and fourth-wall-breaking in its adaptation of a collection of Roald Dahl shorts.
And “Henry Sugar,” which premiered out of competition at the Venice Film Festival, is the first of four Roald Dahl shorts Anderson has crafted, all of which he’s filmed. This one stars Ralph Fiennes, Benedict Cumberbatch, Dev Patel, Sir Ben Kingsley, and Richard Ayoade, and centers on a rich man who learns about a guru who can see without using his eyes and then sets out to master the skill in order to cheat at gambling. IndieWire’s David Ehrlich called it “37 minutes of pure bliss.”

Indie director Joe Begos was the right guy to give us a wholly original genre flick that came out in 2019 to seemingly good reviews but little fanfare 4 years later. Welcome back to Dead Time. Sometimes the truth is stranger than fiction and sometimes things really do go bump in the night. The paranormal is often portrayed in horror movies for maximum dramatic effect, which doesn’t quite reflect the reality of what it’s like to have a paranormal experience. We watch horror movies about ghosts and demonic possessions because we like to be scared, but don’t you sometimes wonder what paranormal phenomena is like in real life?
To answer that question, this month, I was excited to talk with actress, paranormal investigator, and self-described “rock n rollin’, death defying witch” Susan Slaughter. Susan has starred in several horror movies such as Slay Belles, Bliss, and The Dawn. Susan also gives her expert opinion on videos of unexplained phenomena on Travel Channel’s popular television show Paranormal Caught on Camera and has also appeared on shows like Syfy’s Ghost Hunters International.

The 2023 edition of the Karlovy Vary Film Festival opens Friday night with some A-list firepower. Ewan McGregor and Alicia Vikander will be in the Czech spa town to collect special honors, while Russell Crowe is attending for a career retrospective and to receive the Crystal Globe lifetime achievement award. Crowe will also be performing on the opening night along with his band The Gentlemen Barbers.
But there’ll also be another musical act set to play June 30 at the opening concert, one that’s perhaps a little more established than the Gladiator star (no disrespect, Russell).
English band Morcheeba have been fine-tuning their downtempo, electronic vibes since forming in the mid-1990s, moving from trip hop origins into more pop-based, hip-hop-infused soul waters, most notably with the 1998 breakout album Big Calm and 2000’s follow-up, Fragments of Freedom. Netflix and Disney+ have ads, but Amazon has another idea.
Amazon Studios will soon license its original shows and movies to third-party platforms. The newly formed Amazon MGM Studios Distribution, announced on Monday, will license out Amazon originals (and continue to license MGM content) worldwide, making Amazon Prime Video the first major streamer to enter syndication in such a big way. Will Netflix be second? After all, no one covets revenue more.
As the once-bulletproof streaming industry collectively searches for new revenue streams, Netflix has arguably been the most vocal about the importance of the top-line accounting number. The king of the streamers, once faithfully married to one lone revenue stream, previously touted subscribers as its primary metric of success. Nowadays there is ad revenue from the “Basic with Ads” tier and unearthed subscriber revenue from paid sharing, and Netflix shareholder letters no longer offer subscriber forecasts.

That too, in a clear, even colloquial and ‘colourful’ language – eschewing the esoteric jargon that most philosophers, chiefly Central European, tend to create or revel in.
And it also helps when they use examples from popular culture, like this bearded and burly Slovenian philosopher, whose frame of reference spans Hollywood films from Charlie Chaplin to "The Matrix" and literature from Shakespeare to Stephen King, as well as a wide section of cutting-edge science, from biogenetics to quantum theory.
For good measure, Slavoj Zizek is characterised by an unconventional approach and appearances and can be counted for a slew of polemics and provocations – describing most people as "boring idiots".
Along with global political and economic issues, he offers trenchant opinions on topics from modern advertising to consumerism to reality shows, and so on.
This is not only a bid to disrupt the expected academic method, but also of the idea of the philosopher as an unworldly,...

The Love Is Blind Season 4 reunion is coming, and it will already be different from all the others. That’s because it will air live on Netflix on April 16 at 5 p.m. Pst or 8 p.m. Est. Unedited drama sounds promising. But here is why the reunion should include more than the couples who made it to the altar.
1. Irina, Micah, and Paul should get their awkward moment Irina Solomonova | Netflix
Viewers didn’t get to see Micah Lussier find out about her closest friend crushing on her fiancé. Instead, Micah tells Paul Peden that she’ll be talking to Irina Solomonova. Even though he was part of it, Paul seemed so far removed from the situation.
If Irina gets a seat at the reunion, then Paul must give his perspective on her flirty moments in Mexico. It would also be interesting to see Micah and Irina’s dynamic after...

Spoiler Alert: Do not read ahead if you have not watched the Season 9, episode 6 of “The Masked Singer,” which aired March 22 on Fox.
You’d better be ready to, be ready to… Jump! Off of “The Masked Singer.” Actor Holly Robinson Peete, known for “21 Jump Street” among other things, was one of the two more celebrities who unmasked on Wednesday’s edition of “The Masked Singer.” Also out: WWE star Alexa Bliss, who just made headlines this week for revealing that she had been diagnosed with skin cancer, and recently underwent a procedure for it.
For Axolotl, panelist Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg got it right, naming Alexa Bliss (real names Alexis Kaufman and Alexis “Lexi” Cabrera). Robin Thicke guessed Nikki Bella. Ken Jeong thought it was Brie Bella. Nicole Scherzinger picked McKayla Maroney.

Directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett (Scream, Ready or Not) are back behind the camera for Scream VI, now playing in movie theaters nationwide.
In the brand new movie, “The Scream saga continues with the four survivors of the Ghostface killings as they leave Woodsboro behind and start a fresh chapter.”
That means we can expect themes and character arcs introduced in 2022’s Scream to deepen. With Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett at the helm, that also means brand new Easter eggs and franchise nods nestled within the slasher thrill ride. The franchise, since its inception, revolves around its commentary and reverence for the horror genre, after all.
Bloody Disgusting spoke with the directors ahead of the film’s release. They explained that they couldn’t resist one of the more obvious references regarding their New York City set sequel: Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan.

Marvel Comics have always been innovative in their character creation. The sky really is the limit and the combination of Inhuman origins, Mutant DNA, cosmic connections, mystical, mythical and monstrous transformations, have all led to the invention of some truly bizarre individuals. Of course, the Marvel Cinematic Universe might have adapted some oddities, from Rocket and Groot to Leapfrog, but the source material is home to countless more truly weird ideas that have somehow managed to stand the test of time.
Many of these figures have made multiple appearances throughout comic book history. Most of them aren’t exactly leading figures and it’s unlikely that a titular run will be awarded to them anytime soon. But whether they are comedy characters or messed-up menaces, these heroes and villains continue to be entertaining every time they show up. Many have carried over from a bygone age of a team-up/antagonist...
