Uncivilized

Having experienced hurricane Maria, made Uncivilized enticing to watch. And, having watched it, I can say that I truly identify with it, which made it even more riveting. This film awakened all my emotions. I shivered at some scenes, and chuckled the next. It was nostalgic. And in the end it reminded me of the hope that I felt, when I saw the trees turning green again. Uncivilized leaves the audience with a sense of oneness. I absolutely loved the movie, and would watch it ten times over.

Uncivilized was absolutely captivating. The Impact of Category 5 Hurricane Maria, seen through the eyes of Michael, who lived through Maria and the aftermath truly brought home to me the resilience of the people of Dominica, their strengths, determination and endeavours restoring the paradise that is Dominica. This film left me absolutely speechless and brought out all of the emotions. I had tears in my eye one moment and was chuckling the next.

Watching his journey of self discovery unfold from start to finish, with the absolute biggest possible wrench thrown into his plan and then seeing how he used that to utilize all that he has now learned to help make an impact on his home island but furthermore the world was a truly magical experience.

This film is raw and relatable, especially given the current circumstances. No matter how far removed from the tiny island of Dominica or the Caribbean a viewer may self identify, this film has produced a connection to the questions that many often find themselves pondering and will leave you wanting to do more in your own life to give back, connect with your community(s), and be grateful for the life that we have.

I can't wait to see the continued success of this film as I think we all have so much to learn, thank you to all who were involved in putting this amazing piece together and to my dear friend for braving it all to show us what is possible and encourage others to follow their paths, wherever that may take them and to conquer fear.

First off, I cried. 😭

A well produced, up close and personal film, that is sure to tug at your heart strings, and will even make you laugh or giggle, if you have a sense of humor.

But what struck me the most is that it's real!
