Filming on an operating train had long been a challenge Callan wanted to accomplish. Keeping non-cast and non-crew members that were regular passengers on the scenic train was part of his goal. When the rail cars were swaying back and forth, it was difficult not to roll with the moving floor. The train was required to be no faster than about 10 miles per hour due to the rather old rail beds and ties.
