Armen (Michael Cera) is a nerd hermit land crab in New Jersey. He and his meathead friends live under the boardwalk with the other townies. During summer times, the ocean crabs arrive for their vacations. Ramona (Keke Palmer) comes with her family, but her mother insists that they stay in the ocean resort section. Ramona has a wandering heart and Armen falls in love.
This is a lesser animated movie from Paramount Animation. I do like the general concept of a townie crab falling for the exotic ocean crab. I'm not completely sold on the Jersey shore stereotypes. It's mildly humorous with partial annoyance. Michael Cera is doing Woody Allen and again, I'm not completely sold on it. This is a shorter movie. It feels like it could do more. I like the rollercoaster section. It's fine for a family flick.

SUPER cute and I loved the accents. It's a very typical "othering" story and how we have more in common than we think.
Absolutely a recommend and very entertaining.
If you're looking for a movie you can turn on for the kids at a party or to watch something light hearted for the evening, this is something that you want to turn on.
The animation is up to standard. The story is good. The humor is very clever and plays into many classic stereotypes with the Jersey accent and is very clever in it's use of scale. It is also quite heart warming and tugs on those heart strings in just the right amount.
My only criticism would be that you do need a little background in accent stereotypes to really enjoy the subtext, but if you do, you'll love it!

A very formulaic movie that goes through all the storybeats in the way you would expect. A pocahontas like story where two lovers meet from different factions. A girl that wants to leave her sheltered live and see the world. A guy that is a little too shy and finds it hard to fit in. It has all been done before and borders the line of cliche.
The only praise I can give in terms of originality are it's setting. Some effort was put into the world building. And the very musical like structure. Though most songs are pretty standard, and not much to write home about. It does feel like a musical with some production value.
Overall it's a decent movie, but painfully average.

This is a great family movie voiced by a brilliant all-star cast. It has lots of original catchy songs which really make the movie. It's a really heartwarming story of a sea crab and a land crab who fall in love, much to the initial disapproval of their friends and families due to them being on different sides. There's much more to the film than that though, and it's very funny in parts with lots of humour for both the children and the parents The land crabs are from Jersey Shore, where the movie is set, and the sea crabs are the tourists who descend upon Jersey Shore every summer much to the disgust of the land crab residents. The land crabs are so stereotypically "Jersey Shore", which makes it very entertaining. It's just a really great family movie that we've watched multiple times this summer.
Simple story, no propaganda, pure joy for the entire family, sure sometimes songs can get carried for too long but still a solid movie.
I've missed that era where animations and movies were made for people to escape! (and for children to learn a thing or two...) This movie truly made my soul happy, sure it's not a masterpiece, but it's something I would recommend shamelessly to everyone to watch.
If I had to describe this movie it would be a musical, adventure, thriller, romance.
There's around 5 songs in the movie, 2 of them are meh, the other ones are acceptable.
Adventure and thriller is the place this thing thrives, specially encouraging everyone to "come out of their shell" (pun intended.)
And to wrap it up, there's beautiful romance to finish the film on a high note.
It's a classic formula that, if applied correctly, it would be enough for you to at least enjoy your popcorn.
The biggest part I love about this movie is the purity of it. No political agenda, no secret messages.
