I have been enjoying the show but

This episode was not the best. I love the cinematography, the settings and composition. Even the slow pace is appropriate for the dramatic tension. But Lucifer and this "fight" was lame as hell. Lucifer, tied for second as the most powerful entity in DC, vs Dream of the Endless, yet the whole fight was who can come up with the most powerful idea. And Lucifer started with a wolf.... Why wouldn't she just start with "I am Anti-Life"..?

I get the whole fight was trying to be cerebral and subvert expectations, but it just came off as silly and pointless.

    Downvote away.

Something you do not see everyday. Over the centuries of civilization the battle between good and evil, heaven and hell, has been done tens of thousands of times, but rarely with such finesse and impact. It is literally like watching UFC match where there is no touching but constant action. Possibly one of the best written and most memorable TV episodes of all time. At least I HOPE it is! In many ways SANDMAN shows more promise and creativity than many of its competitors. ((Designated "IMDb Top Reviewer." [9.1] All kind of reasons

Episode 4: Very interesting of an episode with countless deep fantasy messages, gorgeous cinematography, superb CGI and visual effects for the pleasure of eye candy lovers. Deep storyline and plots adaptation doing justice to the comics, a somewhat unrealistic and weak flow at the same time while the vibe is shinier, all the while telling the story in a mishmash way. The weakest link of the episodes so far is its convoluted, sort of slow burn storytelling, having all the bright ingredients, but falling to coherently grab viewers interest.

Marvelous atmosphere, fantasy deep scenes, storyline plots complemented with ultra marvelous fantasy charismatic acting and eye candy visual effects for our pleasure and characterization of the episode.

What an episode! but again the casting has missed!

The whole build up to the confrontation was eerie wonder around of hell and the difference between the Lucifer and this version (as they are derived from the same universe of comics) is a stark difference. The small details of the side story of the comic scattered around this episode throughout the hell trip.

The main event of the episode is the the war of word between the ruler and the sandman. The visualization of both the words and the wounds that they inflict on the combatants is just awesome!

Overall this is a well crafted story matched with prefect visuals but Lucifer's casting was well off the mark! Thats probably the worst casting of the series so far. Her presences throughout the episode just didnt work compared to Tom Ellis or Peter Stormare in either of the last 2 editions of the universe.

    Beautiful and terrifying

Having not read the comics, I had no idea what I was in for. The visuals of the location were amazing, and I loved the casting and the acting of the characters in this episode. I also was not familar with the game before this, but now I am in love. The concept behind it -- which I believe isn't unique to Sandman -- is very interesting, and the way it was done and represented here, and the implications of the way the battle went, were beautiful. One of my favourite episodes of this whole show, I think.

    • Trivia
One form Lucifer takes in their duel is that of Anti-Life, the End of Everything. Throughout the Silver Age, and into the Modern Age, of DC comics, the Anti-Life equation has been sought by Darkseid, The Great Darkness, as a means to end the chaos of free will, and bring all living things under his dominion.

Lucifer Morningstar: I am... a dire wolf. Prey-stalking, lethal prowler.

      Dream: I am a hunter. Horse-mounted, wolf-stabbing.

      Lucifer Morningstar: I am a serpent. Horse-biting, poison-toothed.

Dream: I am a bird of prey. Snake-devouring, talons ripping.

Lucifer Morningstar: I am a butcher bacterium. Warm-life destroying.

      Dream: I am a world. Space-floating, life-nurturing.

      Lucifer Morningstar: I am a nova. All-exploding, planet-cremating.

Dream: I am a universe. All things encompassing, all life embracing.

Lucifer Morningstar: I am Anti-Life. The Beast of Judgement. The dark at the end of everything. What will you be then, Dream Lord?

      Dream: [collapses] I... I... I...

Matthew the Raven: Boss? Hey, boss!

Lucifer Morningstar: Still with us, Dream?

Matthew the Raven: He is. And it's his move, Your Majesty.

Lucifer Morningstar: There are no more moves. What can survive the Anti-Life?

Matthew the Raven: Hey, boss. Listen to me. You know what can survive the Anti-Life? You. Dreams don't fucking die. Not if you believe in them. And I believe Dream of the Endless would never leave his raven here, alone, in Hell with Lucifer.

      Dream: I... am... Hope.

      [stands up]

      Lucifer Morningstar: Hope.

Dream: Well, Lightbringer? It's your move. What is it that kills hope?

Lucifer Morningstar: Choronzon, give him his helm.
