I can only imagine that the negative reviews are from younger women, or certain men, as I can't imagine any woman over 40 not thoroughly enjoying the total truth of this movie. Sally Phillips does a great job playing uptight Gina who redefines herself and her values. Her friends are what female friends should be, supportive and challenging. It was a terrific tongue in cheek movie which I thoroughly enjoyed. The only downside is that a service like this with warm and genuine women at the helm doesn't exist!
I'm still chuckling at all the user reviews by men misunderstanding this movie. The irony is palpable.
I know no one involved in making this film and came to it not knowing anything about it.
I thoroughly enjoyed it-it's a definite cut above the average female-centered film and for any woman over the age of 50, it went boldly into places not usually canvassed on our screens.
Is it a brilliant film, worthy of Oscars? No. Is it trying to be? No. It's a simple story told well, with middle aged women, complete with wrinkles, fat bottoms and hair that won't behave, working out how to ask for the pleasure they want.
It has been so rare for a movie like this to be made, but this new post-COVID wave (Leo Grande, How to Please a Woman) and now The Idea of You, show the world that older women are worthy of being cherished and pleasured.

This film is "fluff", but charming and enjoyable fluff. It differs from older films of the same sort---sexy romantic farce---because it can talk about sexual technique and use words that would have been taboo in the dark old days. The actors are good at their job, and clearly enjoyed their roles, but don't expect this to be in the Oscar lists. Is it improbable? No more than many romantic comedies. Anyone giving this less than 6/10 or more than 8/10 is clearly either prudish or surprised with the open everyday ways of dealing with sex today, respectively.
If this was scripted as a stage play rather than a film, it would be performed by amateur troops all over the place.

With a little bit of prostitution you can be very successful in Perth, Australia. A middle-aged woman (pretty good: Sally PHILLIPS) loses her job and turns an almost bankrupt transport company into a cleaning service with half-naked guys (also with character depth: Alexander ENGLAND). Gina (that's the name of the good one) finally wants to know. The ladies of Perth are thrilled and of course still want a little more...
With female pimping for women's self-empowerment, peppered with increased sex positivity! It's a lot at once, but it works because of the fantastic leading actress. You simply take away from Sally PHILLIPS the role of a woman at the turning point of her life. She goes from being a swimmer in life to setting the pace, and that is definitely an example for many people around the world. And the beautiful images of Perth, an Australian city that hasn't been seen so often in the cinema, are also very enjoyable. The film fits in well with the times and only leaves a small unpleasant aftertaste. Harmless and joyful sex doesn't just sell well in Australia.

I like to watch Aussie movies as an Aussie and did not know this was one when chosen on Apple TV, it was not predictable, had many funny moments and did not make me cringe with an over Aussie emphasis like some Aussie films can do. Some amazing female characters and a number of themes running through the movie. Enjoyed it, recommended.

The rest of the end titles are normal.
