I really wanted to love this, but it's a mess. The subject matter is great if you're a Twin Peaks fan, but this doc is all over the place. The first two thirds get confusing and should definitely be re-edited. It is choppy and jumps back and forth in time too much, and too quickly. It cuts between different interviews so fast at the start that you're not sure what's going on. The underlying music in most interview segments is way too loud and often does not match the subject matter. Most of the music should actually be trashed altogether, and the film should just let the people tell the story without so much distraction. And what's with so many "Ken Burns effects"?? Too much, too fast zooming in and out of still photos and live interviews. This is so unnecessary and vey distracting! It tries to mimic the style of many well-made docs, but the abrupt editing leaves you feeling exhausted from trying to keep up with the chronology of the story. The pace is off. It does not take it's time to let the story unfold in a way that gets the viewer to feel anything.
It does, however, have a strong ending. The story of shooting Catherine for the return of Twin Peaks is very engaging and very touching, but most of this doc should be presented in a different way. The material is there, but should be handed over to a great doc editor who knows what to do with it. Very disappointing overall.
