The Fantastic Four: First Steps

A breezy self-contained flick which requires little to no homework. Music to casual fans ears, this being the 56th project within the main narrative an all.

No time is wasted introducing these characters again - an origin story at this point in the saga would be kind of arduous. This may rattle some sweaties but it was deftly handled. The chemistry between Pedro Pascal and Vanessa Kirby was lacking but Ebon Moss-Bachrach's performance would even the scales somewhat.

An exciting finale and effects that stand out as some of the best in the multiverse saga. A little more interconnectivity leading up to Doomsday and Phase Six might not be so much of a slog.

I think it's safe to say that in comparison to the recent marvel movies, this one takes a step back and brings back the simpler early marvel days vibe.

Must admit walked in with low expectations and came out hyped and excited for where this movie may take place with marvels next to come movies.

Had doubts on the casting being a diehard fan to the early first two originals but will admit the casting held up to their game in the movie.

The movie was a great standalone movie, didn't dwell and repeat too much on what we already know, went straight to the basics, keeping it simple and easy to follow with the plot. Providing us with little theories we can make with upcoming films also.

Music and effects I would say were pretty good or getting better, marvel is definitely heading towards a better direction.

Feel like we the audience need to lower our expectations a little, that way we will find more enjoyment.

So, here we are again. Almost 10 years like clockwork we get a new Fantastic Four reboot (1994, 2005, 2015, 2025).

Four times they made a film, Four times I've been disappointed (though I have a little soft spot for the Tim Story films, I fully recognise they are trash).

I adore these characters. Richards, Sue, Johnny and Ben. You could argue they built Marvel.

So I'm so glad that the 5th film is GOOD.

It isn't perfect, but it was very worthwhile to watch. The visuals were brilliant, the family interactions are on point, the action is exciting and interesting. Story wobbles a little, but never enough to be convoluted or distracting. Experienced TV director Matt Shakman succeeded spectacularly in his film debut.

Pascal, Kirby, Quinn and Moss-Bachrah are the definitive Fantastic Four. Not only are they individually great, the chemistry between them is also. Kirby is a powerhouse, and we get the Sue Storm we deserve. Pascal is now positioned to be a driving force for Marvel, and the potential for Quinn and Moss-Bachrach to interact with wider Marvel is huge.

I have to say the most eye-catching feature of the movie is its "retro futurism" art style. The traces of it, the retro futurism, can be found in every detail of the movie, the costumes, the furniture design, or the vehicle's look. These elements are perfectly matched, which make the "retro futurism world" more real, and make you sinked there.

However, as one of the marval fans, especially who has seen the movie like Captain America 2 or 3, it's not hard to find the plot unrealistic, even naive.

Anyway, as a family-type blockbuster, the fantastic 4 reaches my expectations.

Visually, this film was a standout with stunning cinematography, impressive CGI, and a unique retro aesthetic that felt refreshingly different from the usual superhero fare. The story was fairly basic and the short runtime didn't allow enough depth to fully explore the villain's motivations. The casting was nearly perfect, with every actor bringing their character to life in a way that made you love the team not just as a whole but as individuals. Overall, I'd rate it a solid 7.2 out of 10. It's a fun, visually rich ride and I'm genuinely excited to see where the story goes next. The post-credit scene was a 9 out of 10, one of the most dramatic and thrilling I've seen in years.
