5 Cowok Jagoan: Rise of the Zombies

This is a pretty strange movie that was on my recommended list on Netflix. I liked the little clip that played when I hovered over it, so I watched it.

It's about a janitor named Yanto whose girlfriend is kidnapped by some sort of mercenary group, and decides to take matters in his own hands, by recruiting some of his friends.

It's a comedy adventure in the vein of Up in Smoke and Mystery Men, with a tiny dash of Shaun of the Dead. While I like all three movies, this combination is just not my cup of tea.

The acting is way too broad, and the plot incomprehensible. I had to look it up online and translate the text from Indonesian to English, in order to understand it.

Still, there are some funny bits, including a sequence involving escaping from harm using techno music that is playing on a phone.

That said, while it might not have been the best movie, I would recommend it for fans of slapstick comedy and over the top superhero/zombie movie parodies.

Even though Netflix has thousands of titles i can never find anything to watch, so I tried this one on for size. This movie is comedy gold. It's so dumb, but damn funny. Terrible effects, but so much fun. Thank you Indonesian film industry.
